Vanity lights mounted on bathroom mirror
Comments (4)When I have seen lighting mounted in front of a large wall mirror, it has always been side sconces. I think that they look really nice done this way. We are discussing this very thing over on a different thread. Here is a [Link to that discussion.[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/best-master-bath-lighting-dsvw-vd~5177252) A quote from that thread on exactly what you are asking: "bossyvossy Who knew. The American Lighting Assn offers some guidelines. They are not written in stone but are useful and will be a starting point for me. For ex., sconces s/b mounted at eye level and s/b 26-30” apart for optimal illumination. above mirror light s/b about 80” from the floor. Recessed lighting does cast a shadow and s/b combined w/additional lights for optimal illumination. dimmers!!!" So, hop on over there and enjoy the discussion. There is a search bar at the top of the Bathroom Forum that will allow you to find out pretty much any time we have discussed Sconces or Lighting in the past 15 years or so....See Morehow many light fixtures over large vanity mirror in bathroom?
Comments (6)A double light over each sink should be sufficient with a window and assuming the shower is directly across from the vanity and that is the extent of the room. Other options are three single sconces mounted on the mirror and an over head light to give more light to the shower. I have a four-light over a 60" vanity in a 5x11 windowless room. The vanity area is well-lit. The shower at the end of the room is a little more shadowed but not enough to make showering and cleaning an issue....See MoreBathroom wall sconces over 36" vanities?
Comments (3)It sounds like a lighted mirror or medicine cabinet is a good choice, to me. People are going to come on and tell you that they no longer like towers that separate the two sink areas. Water gets splashed, sinks feel crowded in, and so on. At that point, tell them that you will recess the tower into the wall 4" and only 6 " or so will be on the counter - LOL! Lot of people find that having the tower sit on a second layer of the counter material also helps keep the wood dry. It is like the tower has a little platform under it. My only concern with the lighted mirrors is that they can look pretty modern, so what style of cabinetry and overall style will your bathroom be?...See Morebathroom vanity lighting over medicine cabinet
Comments (12)I have done a box before. In my case, the light fixture ended up on the slanting part of the ceiling and the fixture could not accommodate the slant. So I had my carpenter build a box to match the slant and make a level place for the light to attach. So you can have a box made for behind the light fixture. Others have posted here, asking for help finding a light that protrudes enough, and I don’t think any have been found. Can lights have their own issues above a vanity. They usually make shadows on the face of the person shaving or doing make-up. Light behind you may help. These ceiling lights are very easy to install and they send out the light 360 degrees around, plus, their color can be adjusted. They might help in your situation. One over the shower is nice, too. I found them when doing my bathroom and loved that they need no electrical box behind them and take up only the depth of the ceiling drywall. My builder had used them before and also loved them. You don’t have to worry about ceiling beams as long as the electrician can get the wire to them. https://www.build.com/dals-lighting-5006-cc/s1763172?uid=4163442...See MoreEllen_2468
