Best dishwasher with a heated dry option?
Comments (37)Having just regrettably disposed of a "going strong" Kitchen Aid dishwasher of 15 years vintage, because somebody not me dropped a steel jewelry chain into it's maw, thereby ruining the masticate-or blade drive mechanism... I have learned , too late, that I should have repaired it. Y'see, replacing the masticate-or assembly did me no good: the plastic drive nub on the end of the main motor shaft was worn away.. and replacing the whole damn motor for a 15 cent part just seemed foolish, so I junked it out for a MODEL: FGID2477RF frigidairre, which was such a piece of crap as to excite me out of my usual equanimity, into a rage of "WTF"??? and similar expostulations. So, I have nothing to add to the conclusions expressed above: but remorse that my ignorance blew away a better dishwasher than I'll likely ever have again. FYI, I swapped it back for a K A KDTE254ESS, which still has a heater coil: but I'm suspecting I'll still be disappointed. Woe.....See More2013 Miele diamond & dimension dishwasher questions
Comments (48)Fragrance from the grapefruit tab remains in the tub. Haven't found any transfer to glassware whatsoever. Method also makes a no-fragrance tab. Interesting that you don't get horrible detergent smell from the glasses by using powder. I hate the powders -- can't stand the smell (though the gel is worse). Tabs are a huge improvement for me. Like it or not, the rinse aid does matter as these machines are designed for its use. (Germans seem to have a thing for surfactants). As someone said on one of the threads, if you want a Miele, and dry dishes, it's necessary to accept rinse aid. Fortunately, it's adjustable. You might have a conversation with tech support on this issue. Perhaps the newest machines are more flexible on this. Everyone's water is different. In your house in may be fine to add extra heat and use Cascade. With my soft water I wouldn't dare. However, at one point they programmed the final rinse to be hotter than normal to improve the drying. With a cold-water hook up, which I have, and the onboard heater, a hotter rinse might not affect the cycle time. Occasionally get filming -- iridescent looking streaks on a glass. So I find it useful to an empty cycle on sanitize to clean out any residual soap every few weeks....See MoreMiele Dishwasher-Do you like your220V Futura Profiline PG8083SCVI
Comments (20)Hi 80810snut, I didn't see any benefit to the commercial machine given our usage: we wanted drying because we unload the dryer into our cabinets. The pro-speed cycle plus drying time = express cycle time on the residential machine. So, for our dishwasher there was no difference in timing on a program that included drying. Yes, 2K vs. 5K was also a big consideration. Even if I was saving 20 min. per day, I wouldn't pay the extra 3K given how we do dishes usually: after dinner and don't unload until after an hour of TV, so an extra 10-20 minutes didn't seem to make any difference and the cost is astronomical. In a commercial setting with continuous use the extra $$ makes sense, but we're usually doing 1 load a day, maybe 2 max except for special occasions. For special occasions (lots of cooking) I can do an express short load in 23 minutes... that's 4 minutes longer than the equivalent load on the 8083. I decided I could deal with an extra 4 minutes *shrug*. IOW 3K>4 minutes. Also, repairs: I figured if anything went wrong I would be able to more easily find residential repairpeople who knew the residential units. Hope the above helps....See MoreCarpet cleaner using detergent
Comments (60)Can't comment on new cleaning machines. In the past I had a Bissell and it did a very poor job of vacuuming up the solution. New machine that my DS bought for me. After a very few cleanings, the Bissell then developed a problem where all the cleaning solution would drain out of the tank quickly. Repair part was on backorder. Ditched the Bissell and bought a used Hoover at a rummage sale. It does a much better job vacuuming up the cleaning solution. But it has a design flaw. A hose is breaking at a flex point; I have it patched with self sealing silicone tape for now. The used Hoover has outlasted the brand new Bissell. I'll be on the lookout to replace it when garage sales start again this summer. Likely will be another Hoover. It won't be another Bissell, that much I know for sure....See More- 5 years ago
