What is the color of the cabinet (it's hard to tell in your photo)? I painted my living room Classic Silver from Behr paints. It's a beautiful, medium colored silvery gray that looks great with about every color. You could look on Behr's website or any other paint website, and virtually paint a living room. That should give you an idea how the color would work but I also recommend buying paint samples first before buying enough paint to paint the room. It will save you frustration, time, and money. Before choosing the Classic Silver, I purchased two other gray paint samples along with the Classic Silver, painted large enough sections on my living room wall, looked at the paint colors for a few days before making my choice. I made sure the color worked well on sunny and cloudy days.

Thanks for your advice Bev, the cabinet is saltra wood with a ceasor stone grey top. The glass splashback is clear glass painted with grey paint that the cabinet maker did himself. However because the green in the glass comes out the grey splashback has a blue tinge to it. I am trying to bring the grey into the room and bring out the grey in the wood in the cabinet. I will check out the Behr paints website. Thank you

You could try a very dynamic color like Benjamin Moore's smoke. I did a color called Paris Smoke (Valspar) years ago and I love the way it changes with the light: from light robin's egg blue to ocean green to grey smoke. More interesting than a colder grey.

May I suggest that the window treatments in the back of the picture could benefit from replacing the vertical blinds and the valance over them. A newer look would be no valance and a rod hung at the top of where the offending valance is now with drapes to the floor. You might pick up the blue gray in the painted glass.
