Rita's Pictures from Wednesday and Thursday - Very Long
Comments (24)Rita, That is an incredible group of blooms! They are all gorgeous, and there is no way I can widdle my favorites down to even two or three. The ones that I found most stunning were INDY HEARTSTOPPER, PROOF POSITIVE, WINNING NOTE (I got it last fall and can't wait to see it bloom after your pics!)BASS GIBSON, EXTRAVAGANT, and HELLO HEARTSTRINGS (Another I am anxious to see bloom for me. I also love the depth of color in your CELEBRATION OF ANGELS. Mine doesn't look quite as velvety, although it is a bloom machine and I love it. Can't wait to see what the weekend brings you! Comments (18)Thanks everyone! Nancy, I do have some clumps of veronica in that bed - you can see some in the 'another angle' photo, it's in the middle toward the bottom. I also have veronicastrum, which is the bottom right of that same photo. In addition to those, the coneflowers and the monarda, I have agastache and nepeta (catmint) that are taller accents. The tall nepeta is in both group photos, on the very right, kind of in the middle (Nepeta sibirica 'Souvenir d'André Chaudron' , hummingbirds love it) - it's sprawling all over all the daylilies near it, I really need to try to cage it or something next year. Mantis - I have had Crazy Ivan for a few years, in a pot. Late last summer I gave away all but one fan, which I planted in the ground. It's now 2 fans. One scape, not many buds - maybe 8-10. I think it probably would be happier further south, but it's holding it's own. It's on my trade list. Maryl, I'd been wanting Linda Beck for a while, an just got it in late May - 2 fans and it surprisingly put up 2 scapes. I look forward to seeing how it does in future years!...See MorePics from Wednesday and Thursday...
Comments (9)Thanks everyone! Rita, It's not just the light. It seems like every flower I have is lighter than those in the warmer climates. I won't trade any, as they are beautiful to me, but I do drool over pics that are posted that are so much more colorful than mine. There was one of Wisest of Wizards that put mine to shame a week or two ago (I think it was the other Julie's), and another of Prickled Petals just today or yesterday that was so much more dramatic than mine. I am careful about which ones that I choose... have studied and determined what colors do well for me and what wash out. I am ok with the washout if they turn out like my Gift From Heaven. I bought Julie Newmar last year because of the name... have been disapointed so far in the flower, but will reserve judgement until next year. It does seem however that purples and especially lavenders really don't show themselves in my climate. Debra, Jan, Tom, Julie, Jean... I will still keep posting, even if no-one looks! I love my flowers and love to share when I can. This forum was how I got really hooked several years ago, and I can't prevent myself from at least trying to create another addict. In addition, it was so wonderful for me to enjoy all of the photos that you all posted well before we were in bloom... the least that I can do is reciprocate and post those of mine that are still going strong while you are winding down. Comments (11)Wonderful pictures!! Karen, that place (location, food, everything) is utterly charming. Nicole, I'm glad you explained your picture because one might think you were on a sort of circular treadmill, turning a wheel with your feet. :-) I'm posting my picture and going to read about trench art......... An unusual planting for gravesites. I love it!...See Moreshive
