Pics from Wednesday and Thursday...

Life got busy over the last couple of days, and I got behind on renaming my photos so was not able to share any.

Mom tells me that if I didn't take so many every time we walked it wouldn't be such a problem... but how can you walk by such beautiful faces without trying to capture them? What did gardeners ever do without digital cameras???

Anyway, here are some of the blooms from the last couple of days:

I had posted her before, but she is starting to get her ruffles and darker color. She is just huge, too!

FFO on a new plant that I got as a bonus. Am reserving judgement until I see a few more.

Finally got a decent picture of Sabie... she hasn't been opeing well for me this year.

Can't seem to capture the deepness of the red on this one, but it is wonderful!

I have posted once already, but I am so in love with this one this year I am posting again. I know those of you who grow it in warmer climates have better coloring than I do, but mine is spectacular to me!

That's all of the new ones for now... blooms looked promising for this evening, so I hope to get more then.

Julie - I love the ruffles on Yazoo Elsie, and the eye on Gift From Heaven is very neat!

You tell mom that there are all these people on the daylily forum and we all want to see your pictures. It would be cruel to stop taking pictures and posting.

Great pictures and my favorite would be GREEN EYED WARRIOR. I have GIFT FROM HEAVEN myself. I remember thinking last fall when it bloomed for the first time that it did not look that much like the picture on the Maryotts website where I bought it from. But this year it bloomed and wow, what a lovely daylily. Guess it just needed some time to settle in. Yours seems to be paler in coloring than mine or it could just be the light.

I had to go look up Penny Pinsley. It's a little one! I am becoming very enamored of the littles. Your pictures make it very appealing. I'm trying to remember what tour I was on when I saw Lavender Cream Cascades in several gardens. Probably Houston, given it's a Carpenter. Anyway, I remember thinking then how much I had liked it...and had forgotten until your pictures! Haha. Rambunctious Rosie is my kind of gal...big and tall! Kentucky Lucky looks very proud today. I feel your heat...I think Sunday we will get back down to the 80s...sigh. Try to stay cool.

Driving to work this morning (Wed) I saw an athletic field in Cranford covered in frost! My Heliotrope and purple bell vine were out on the back porch. Fortunately there was no damage. I really don't want to bring all 80 pots inside.

Thanks to all who mentioned the Gypsy Cats clump! Nancy - SC Francis Busby should rebloom for you. It usually reblooms here. The Texas Blue Eyes seedling has a special place in my heart because it's such a survivor. Kate and Sherry - Thanks for your positive comments about the SB2 x Purple Dragonfly seedling! Julia - I wish I could send you some rain. I was so disappointed earlier this week when it rained all around us and we only got about dozen drops of water. But yesterday was finally a good soaking rain. Nat, Kay and Sherry - The Dancing Flamingo seedling is a special one. I must have at least 30 photos of it because it never has a bad bloom. I like GEW too...so pretty and YEH with her ruffles. I have GFH and love it but I also love your's. It's very unique in it's eyezone pattern. I'm so glad you take lots of photos, keep posting them for us all to enjoy with you. :)

Love the creaminess of Yazoo Elsie Hinston! Blooms like that fit in anywhere, and make nice contrasts between brighter colored flowers.

Also love Gift From Heaven and its intricate EZ!

Oh gee,I like them all,but my very favorite is GREEN EYED WARRIOR,and MARAUDER and GIFT FROM HEAVEN. Those are just gorgeous.Tell mom you have piles of people waiting to see your pictures,so have to keep snapping away.We all injoy all your pictures and waiting for m ore :)

Rita, It's not just the light. It seems like every flower I have is lighter than those in the warmer climates. I won't trade any, as they are beautiful to me, but I do drool over pics that are posted that are so much more colorful than mine. There was one of Wisest of Wizards that put mine to shame a week or two ago (I think it was the other Julie's), and another of Prickled Petals just today or yesterday that was so much more dramatic than mine. I am careful about which ones that I choose... have studied and determined what colors do well for me and what wash out. I am ok with the washout if they turn out like my Gift From Heaven. I bought Julie Newmar last year because of the name... have been disapointed so far in the flower, but will reserve judgement until next year. It does seem however that purples and especially lavenders really don't show themselves in my climate.

Debra, Jan, Tom, Julie, Jean... I will still keep posting, even if no-one looks! I love my flowers and love to share when I can. This forum was how I got really hooked several years ago, and I can't prevent myself from at least trying to create another addict. In addition, it was so wonderful for me to enjoy all of the photos that you all posted well before we were in bloom... the least that I can do is reciprocate and post those of mine that are still going strong while you are winding down.

I am so surprised to see and learn how much your climate affects the color (and edges) of your daylilies. It is not something I had ever given any thought to. Now when I bought Southern Beauties, I had to give some thought to them being winter hardy or not and of course much obsession about whether they are going to rebloom or not.

I still wonder if you have tried daylilies from the more northern hybridizers and if that would make any difference in how they would look for you.

I never have to worry about winter hardy OR rebloom.. the first is a good thing and the second a sad one, but they are the facts for me. I think it is the cool nights in the summer that affect my coloring most. If we have a hot spell where it stays up around 60 at night, my flowers are significantly different in color.

I looked into your suggestion of northern hybridizers, especially after drooling over your Korth (sp?) collection. I do plan on giving one or two of the lighter eyed ones a try, but it seems like most of the northern hybridizers stuff is still a little out of my price range. Unless I just haven't found the right garden, most of the ones I have seen have found on the web only have relatively new introductions and are priced accordingly. Unfortunately I still have to be fairly frugal with any new purchases :(. Doesn't mean I won't keep looking though!
