wolf/viking/dcs 48' df range
Comments (3)You need to check out whether or not DCS has upgraded their ovens on the DF. When they first came out 5 years ago the electric ovens did not have true convection, did not have hidden elements and did not have rolling racks (even though their electric wall ovens had those features). If they haven't added those features I would definitely go with the Wolf DF. My the way I've had a AG DCS 30" range for 5 years and have been very pleased with it....See MoreToo Good to Be True? Comments (24)You are not really stuck, you do not have to buy either of these. Neither has a good reputation. Why restrict yourself to this choice? You would be better off saving for a number of months more and getting exactly what you want and continuing to look for it on sale elsewhere. Also there are quite a number of both ranges for sale used on craigslist. When a high-end appliance consistently shows up for sale on craigslist it's a hint (also they are in the same price range as you are contemplating paying, except that the sellers on craigslist are more likely to be willing to bargain...something to keep in mind as you may be that seller in a year). That being said, if you elect to go with Sears be sure and take photos of the stove before it is transported. About two years ago I purchased a stove from Sears outlet, I took pictures of it in the showroom and then went home and waited for it to be delivered. I was so excited. When they delivered it, it was clear that when they put it on the back of the truck they had made no effort to wrap it up or keep it tied down. It was banged to hell, paint chips, gouges, scratches, you name it it went from one small scratch on the bottom drawer when it left their showroom to absolutely trashed. I rejected the delivery, The delivery guy started to fight me about that but I showed him the photos on my phone and that really intimidated him, it still took five months to get my money back; don't open a Sears credit card for the extra discount. I could not in good conscience do business with them again, which is really sad because my childhood dreams were made of the Sears catalog...my local appliance store is smarter about things like that, they would deliver a completely intact range, but they don't have the best reputation for repairs-they get the repairs done correctly but it reportedly can take weeks for a service call. You need to look into who will be doing the repairs....See MoreComparing 48" Ranges: Viking, Wolf, Thermador
Comments (6)Definitely take Viking off the table. I really like the Thermador star-shaped burners--much better than having that dead circle in the center of each burner. But I don't know Thermador's reliability record. Wolf's burners used to come stacked, which was a nice feature, but I am not sure if they still do. Wolf's customer service used to be considered the best, but they've been having problems with the oven blue finish on the dual fuel ranges - it chipped shards of enamel with multiple owners (there may even be a lawsuit somewhere I think I heard), and Wolf has done nothing about it. Remember, you will need a large powerful hood over this 48" range. Make sure your exhaust ducting is sufficient for that! The duct needs to be 8" or 10" diameter, depending on the hood. My advice is to post on the Appliances Forum. Here is the link: GW's Appliances Forum...See MoreViking Tuscany 48" Dual Fuel Range (white)
Comments (21)First - Eurostoves is no longer in Boston, they moved to Virginia. But, check around, I would guess there are some other appliance stores in NJ that would have the Capital for you to at least look at, bring your favorite baking pans and see if they fit. Hoods can get expensive and the make up air quite complicated. I cannot recall what our stone surround is costing us, but the make up air, plus vent hood insert is in the ballpark of $3k. This cost does not include aesthetics surrounding the hood, which can probably get as pricey as you can imagine. Kaseki, our resident expert hood ventilation systems, correctly points out that between functionality, aesthetics, and affordability, you can maximize any two. My renovation got delayed a couple years due to various reasons so it allowed me to read these forums over that time and learn a lot. Like, who ever heard of make up air before? ;-) Hit the search function and you will find much on the topic of vent hoods....See MoreN C
