You could certainly use drapes in place of closet doors. I would get something that was mounted into the casing instead of being held up just by tension. As you'll be getting into the closets multiple times a day a tension rod would probably keep falling. Plus using drapes/curtains will allow you to pick something that adds some design to the space. I like the idea of drapes in place of doors ... but everyone might not agree. I'd size the opening so it COULD hold a door if you (or a future owner) decide to add one.

I don't personally care for the idea, but if you like it, search the internet for "drapes instead of closet doors". Tons of stuff. Not sure why you couldn't find anything.

Drapes and rods that match the ones at the windows have worked well for me.

its a look that trends a bit young/impermanent but thats fine, it just means that pictures will appear more on a google image search than at houzz.

my daughter had a parisian themed shower curtain, on plastic rings, on her closet when she was 16. it made it look like a changing room at a department store (and not a shower stall) before stores all went to solid doors. it was very fun looking.

Does the passageway go anywhere? If not often used, you could close it off at the far end and near end with regular hinged doors, then remove the old slider closet doors entirely. It would be a "walk-through/walk-in" closet.

Could look very nice with the right fabric but . . . won't opening and closing the curtains be a PITA? I suspect I would become lazy and leave them open most of the time, defeating the purpose. I can also visualize myself wrestling with the curtains while trying to find shoes on the floor in the back of the closet. Maybe that's just me.

If you do it consider mounting the rod above the closet door, extending it beyond the closet opening, and mount the curtains with rings. That should allow you ample access to the closet. Also, stash the doors in the attic so you can reinstall them when you get ready to sell.

I would suggest to get crafty and macrame something with beads, but, that might take weeks! :D But at least than you would not have to push to one side or the other, you could just dive in, standing up of course. It could be fun...And use smooth polished wooden beads, with holes in them slightly bigger than your rope diameter.. and I liked using nylon rope way back when we made wall hangings and such..waaaay back when. It was easy on the hands, satiny, and you just had to knot it at the end to control the fraying from the bottom up, to the knot..

My daughter did this. I think it's a millennial thing. I like doors. If you think you will sell in the future, put the doors on the garage, and put up your drapes.

I had an aunt who used a very wide roll-up matchstick shade instead of a closet door, and it worked well for her. The shade matched others she had throughout the house, and the woven matchsticks allowed for ventilation between the bedroom and the closet area. Ventilation also could be achieved by using curtains instead of doors.

As a teenager I also had a friend who had her room decorated with pastel ruffled Priscilla curtains over plain white panels, and she used the same arrangement for her closets instead of doors . She had center-meet white panels covering the entire opening of each closet and then had a single right-sided Priscilla, secured by a tieback, on the right closet and a single left-sided Priscilla, secured by a tieback, on the left closet. Between the two closets she had a study desk that also served as a make-up vanity as the desk top would lift up to show a mirror secured to the underside of the top or lid. The interior was about three inches deep to hold cosmetics and grooming items. Below this compartment and on one side she had desk drawers for her study materials. I believe she had some bookshelves attached to the wall above the study desk.

My son was advised by his realtor to reinstall the wooden bifold door for resale. I think clean-up of handprints might be tiresome.
