Beige/yellow bedroom walls. What colour palette would work best?

I’m a young adult moving back home for a couple years after school.
My parents walls are a beige/yellow colour and I will not be painting them.
I have white bedding and a dark wood stained dresser.
My style is kind of a mix between eclectic, Scandinavian, and modern; essentially anything white, with a little colour that looks cozy but clean.
Please let me know what kind of colours you would bring into the room.

Orange and turquoise are trendy colors right now. That makes them easy to find in low cost accessories that you can find in places like Hobby Lobby, Kirkland’s, Tuesday Morning, World Market, Pier 1, HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, etc. Pick whichever of the two colors that you like better and begin collecting a few pillows, throws, artwork, and accessories that will give it a sophisticated young professional look.

I don’t think you necessarily need colour. A neutral room like the houzz photo would be lovely. I could see a wood dresser mixing well in a room like this because there are other wood accents (window casing, vase, bench legs) besides the flooring to tie it together.

Post some pictures and you’ll get more advice, but it sounds like a light gray might work. As for the covers for the a/c and the fan, you can spray paint the covers white, and you can change the fan blades or spray paint them as well. I’m not surprised you didn’t like the light pink, probably looks like a baby girl’s room. :))

I have BM Crisp Linen in my south facing bedroom. In the very early morning sun it has a definite pale yellow appearance. After about 7am and for the rest of the day and evening it is a light cream color, with just the slightest hint of yellow. The color as per Marylee's post above is dead on the color of my room during day and evening.

I agree with adding curtains and pictures on the walls. Paint is one of the most inexpensive items in decor. Gray is a cool color and beige is a warm color. That's probably why your room doesn't look right. Changing the walls to a warm color may work well. Cool colors: bright white, ice cool pastels, black, gray, royal blue, purple, bright yellow, pine green, Kelly green, forest green. Warm colors: off-white, sand, beige, tan, brown, olive green, peach, orange, golden yellow. Talk to the parents, get permission, paint the walls with a few friends in a SINGLE day. My heavens. With your money and your labor please. Pay to put it back when you exit or do the labor and provide the paint. It is ONE room, not planet earth. Go online and get the bedding you want, after browsing Houzz for some inspiration.. Key words here are "young a.d.u.l.t " : )

If the paint can is in the house, dip the end of the stir stick into it, let it dry and take it with you shopping. See how it looks against anything you might be buying. You could go pale and restful or stronger colours. Textures are always interesting. If you run into difficulty, consider painting the walls. I seem to have something from Ikea in every room, it’s not always obvious but you can’t beat the prices. And I always check the clearance area before leaving. Have fun with this.

I don't know your exact shade of color-everybody has their own mental image when hearing yellow/beige-but as somebody who lived with yellow walls..they're actually pretty versatile.

I went with a vibrant palette of yellow-brick red-aubergine. Then as time went I added more colors in patterns etc.

Blue would work of course. Maybe cornflower blue? Maybe turquoise?

White and a bit of black.

Greens since they work everwhere..bring a plant and you have a green:) But I also loved adding chartreuse.

Look at lot of inspiration(can be decor but can also be art, or nature, and whatnot), and you'll feel what clicks with you the most.

Decide what you like more -sharper contrasts? softer ones? As little contrast as possible? Do you want your room to be more upbeat or more quiet?

there's no one right answer, we all are different and your personal reaction to colors and their relationships should govern your choices.

And always strive to vary your textures. Then the room will be interesting even if you go with a very tight, almost monochromatic color palette.
