Do you recognize this?
Comments (6)It looks exactly like Siberian Iris. I harvested a ton of those this summer. It's a really hard seed pod, and will crack apart if you put enough pressure on it? The seeds are thin. From memory, I think they're a bit angular, but not actually triangular?...See MoreWhich Hostas do you grown in your NY garden?
Comments (5)Right now I have about 60-70 different types of hosta in my yard. You are right, if you are going to keep dividing one hosta it will take you forever. Especially, if you select one that is difficult. If you aren't too particular about hostas you can usually pick some up at yard sales or craigslist.com That's how I originally fell in love with them. I bought some variegated and solid green ones from a woman in my area for about $3 each and they were huge, had to be atleast 4 eyes each. You can always start that way and slowly replace as you can get the funds. Keep your eyes open for when nurseries have their clearance sales at the end of the season. Both pilgrim and gold standard are pretty common and you shouldn't have a problem finding those at clearance....See MoreWhich hosta do you have more than one of?
Comments (30)The only hosta I intentionally have more than one of is So Sweet. Others I have duplicates of: Irish Luck, because I thought the other one was dead Bridegroom, same reason. Dancing Queen, same reason. "Big Blue" because I divided it. Blue Mouse Ears because Cleo (my dog) mauled it and Blue Cadet and I couldn't determine which pieces where which hosta when I repotted them. All of the above will go in one pot when I repot this spring. Night before Christmas because my neighbor gave me hers when she moved to assisted living. I'll keep both. I'm thinking of splitting my oldest So Sweet and will keep all three. It's in about the biggest pot I can handle and it aesthetically looks like it's too big for the pot. It does not have that nice round shape anymore. It did well, though. I bought another Minuteman because it was so gorgeous I couldn't resist. I had a smaller one and a Patriot. Not sure whether I will keep all three or not. I'll wait and see how they do. I still have two Frances Williams I intended to re-home. I think I will try them one more season and see if an acidic fertilizer will help their looks. bk...See MoreDo you recognize this Hosta?
Comments (19)Carolina Girl, your first question about the yellow edged hosta - could it be Blazing Saddles? BS is a Tony Avent hosta. He's in NC and develops hosta for warmer climates. The photos in the library show it to be almost a white edge, but that is later in the season. I made a point of ordering several of his hosta this season (also Mary Chastain's Lakeside line). Mine is new. I just received it a few weeks ago and it looks similar to yours. I'll take a photo and post it for you. bkay...See Moreperen.all Zone 5a Ontario Canada
