Hey jc !! My best DA that do not have humidity problems are lady of shallot , Charlotte , Windermere , generous gardener , Bathsheba, royal jubilee, jubilee celebration, sceptred isle , heritage, queen of Sweden, lark ascending, Huntington rose , alnwick.

Do you spray ? Jubilee celebration and carding mill need it . Also those listed below :

The roses that give me the most humidity related grief are Abraham Darby ( considering removing ), st Cecilia ( heartbreak as it’s so beautiful and the most lovely fragrance)

teasig Georgia opens just fine but the blooms are smaller in the heat

Woudl you mind posting what DA they have left after you go ? I saw the sale (martins , right?) but it’s too far for me to drive out and hope for something. Today I drove 30 min to my favorite Amish nursery to find they were closed for the season ( no Facebook posts to let me know ). What a disappointment ! Lol

Boscobel stands heat, humidity, direct sun, rain. Excellent repeat, fragrant, large blooms held upright on strong stems and a tidy shrub with nice foliage.

Heritage and Molineaux are my best DA’s in my SE TX heat and humidity. I also have The Prince and he also does well for me too. I don’t spray and all three suffer very little if any black spot, I would say out of the three the Prince would be the worst for BS. I love my Heritage because it’s a healthy vigorous plant that blooms all the time and smells wonderful, yes the blooms can shatter quickly but there are always plenty of them so it doesn’t bother me. It’s just a good overall rose for me and I would have another one if I had room because it’s a large bush. Good luck at the sale and have fun choosing! Let us know what you ended up buying.

Even tho I have listed my zone as 5 we have zone 10 summers! Heat, humidity and overnight dripping fog. I have noticed that of all my roses the DAs have maintained a normal size flower and repeat through out the summer heat. Many of the others (not DAs) have either not bloomed again or the bloom is very tiny despite being fertilized three times and watered in the heat. I don't have as many as I used to, the remaining are Pat Austin, Heritage, Abraham Darby and Carding Mill. One of my best was Eglantyne. I too wished I had been able to do more research on the few DAs I found this year. I regret not getting the Alnwick instead of Carding Mill but that's how it goes. I am definitely considering more DAs for my new bed I am working on now along my new patio.

I'm very impressed with how Molineux performs here in SE Virginia, and I don't spray! It also has proven to be somewhat shade tolerant and still repeats very well.

Jude the Obscure is stingy here but I think he is stingy everywhere!! Foliage is clean and of course the form and fragrance are just wonderful.

I don’t really know what “spray” means but I know that I don’t do it. And probably don’t want to.

Maintaining the yard and house is fun for me, but I don’t want to add too much upkeep to the point it becomes a chore.

I’m still not able to easily identify the various brands of roses , but last time I was there they had a fairly large inventory of very healthy plants. Not a huge variety though.

Another question I thought of- do any of these recommendations have heavy petal count and cupped blooms? I don’t think I have anything like that.

All they had was Falstaff, Lichfield Angel, and a very sad Abe Darby.

They have $20 Clematis Lily, is you want any.

I ended up with Sexy Rexy and Just Joey.

They were $15 each.

Thanks jc !! I have seen wonderful photos of both your take homes. Just Joey is one I wouldn’t mind trying myself. I don’t have the litchfield angel , I think I read it was a good one! Thanks for the pics . I love clematis too and would probably succumb to those ! Martins is an excellent garden center . In the early spring you can get lucky with small perrenials and vines even for under $5 each . It’s an hour and 15 away for me , used to love going when I lived in Spring Hill and didn’t have to keep a toddler happy for the trip. I do want to go at least one time this summer soon ! Anyway, I ramble. Thank you for sharing what they had to save me a trip .

Hahaha :). Jen I only took that pic because at the time Moses had an active thread inquiring about Edith’s Darling, and I thought who would want such a sad thing I better take a pic to show him! That garden is being overseen by Jack Christianson himself, and there’s ED jumping into the foreground like some awful little toad in this world famous rose sanctuary.

My Molineux is a paragon of virtue in heat, humidity, rain...you name it! Her blooms always open and she wants to bloom even as a small thing. I wish she'd grow bigger though.

I'm in Maryland, so my humidity is quite extreme, and I have to say planting DAs in my no-spray garden was a mistake. Not a single plant I could describe as healthy. By comparison, a few landscaping roses I have by the front door are spotless.

But it's too late now -- I'm hooked and I can't imagine spring without them. When summer comes along, I shift my focus to summer perennials, and my veg and fruit garden. But if I ever move... no more Austins for me.
