Fig tree problem
Comments (1)First of all welcome to the GW/FF. Being a newbie, be aware that not all figs (F.carica) are the same. Sometimes more details are required to answer questions. Do you know the problem fig name (variety)? Did your 5 yr old ever ripen any fruit? What is your USDA zone? Glad that you had some good fig experience, (since 1977). Is it the same variety? My one wild-shot ... you may have aquired a new fig variety that may need caprification?...See MorePlease help my sick tree!
Comments (4)You're right Martin, maybe someone tilled the ground to close to this tree and killed a portion of the tree's roots........fig roots are rather shallow and often quite spreading from the trunk of the tree. Suggestion.........water your tree well making sure to keep the soil moist and it should respond to that treatment. My guess if that this tree was severely neglected by the prior owner and that the roots recently suffered from a tilling operation that was much too close to this tree....leading to some root damage. Comments (2)Thanks for your comment AJ. I just picked this tree up today. It was less than 5 bucks and they were trying to get rid of it so I figured I'd give it a shot. Never had a fig before. It definitely needs a repotting as you noticed and I will do that tomorrow. Thank you for your time and expertise....See Morememetexas
