If it were my plant, I would move that pot away from the wood pile first and see its reaction giving it as much sun as can be provided. I used to have a wood pile just like yours in corner of yard next to our old wooden fence. The wood started to decay and have spots of fungus growing on it as i could not use it fast enough. Also it would stay damp in that area very damp all the time. In my opinion the tree is in a very humid damp area in that location. At night i bet the leaves get a heavy dew on them having plant there. Try moving container away from that area and see its reaction and make sure the soil in container does not stay damp for long periods of time, get rid of the bad looking leaves. Yes it looks like FMV on that leaf pictured but usually its on more than 1 leaf on a whole plant. If you do this and it does not work then the chemical route whichever that may be might have to be used if it keeps spreading afterwards. I do not use any chemicals other than fertilizer if possible. Others may have ideas as well, this is something i personally would try first. Martin

You can shorten it by cutting half off. Most important first you have to thin it,and then prune it.I would prune and thin in the Spring not Fall,but is still up to you. Raised bed is a very good ideea.

redhairing... I understand how daunting pruning an overgrown fig tree can be. But, you are in luck. There have been a number of recent threads that cover this very topic. Search this forum, and you will see plenty of photos of hard-pruned fig trees. Also, You-Tube has some pruning videos. You will need a good, tree-pruning saw to establish the basic structure of the tree. I would not be too worried about "murdering" this fig tree, as they do with crepe myrtles. But you will have to decide where to make those initial pruning cuts to prevent this. You already know the basics of pruning. If you can, post some photos of the tree, and maybe forum members will suggest places for the pruning cuts. You have plenty of time. Major pruning should be done in the Spring, before tree breaks dormancy. You will also want to do this, gradually, over a number of years. Even if you screw up...and I am sure you will not...the tree will put out so much new wood that you will never know within a few seasons. Figs are one of the few trees that can be drastically pruned back, with few worries. It's done all the time to control rampant growth. Good luck. Frank

herman, no. palm fan, no dropping of fruit on this tree. I'm glad I bought this tree, it sounds like its a very good tree to have. very tasty and no fruit drop. I had no idea what I was buying when I bought it. My wife looked the way the tree looked!! When the tree goes dormant I will try to make some rooted cuttings. Hopefully it will work. I tried it once on my dads brown turkey but it didn't work. I cut it and placed some rooting hormone on it and put it in miracle grow soil and nothing happened. I might try another way. I have read about a few different ways on this forum. Joe
