Re-designing kitchen - need help with floor and backsplash
Comments (14)Molding is as style specific as the dimensional cutting of your doors. Your door is modern and finding complimentary molding unless it comes as part of the design elements matching your door is challenging without overwhelming the minimalist esthetic you want to accomplish. Post some pictures so we can compare them. You can skip the frig panels if you're going stainless and aren't choosing an integrated frig where it's completely hidden within the cabinetry. A base panel may be necessary for an exposed base cabinet box side at the end of a run. Same for the wall panel and a wall cabinet. But a plain matching veneered panel may be an option. You have to think about what will get the minimalist look you want and ask them to make it that way....See MoreHelp with the end of kitchen backsplash! To the floor?
Comments (19)Barncatz, I saved that photo before we joined Houzz, maybe two years ago, and it's on my computer. It's probably on page 58 of your search. There's something about the molding that makes the tile look like it belongs there. I think it could work with molding the width of the door frame or a little narrower. Do you have crown molding in the kitchen and adjacent room? Now that I think of it, I posted this once and someone nailed a piece of molding up to get a feel of how it'd look in their home. Try it! You could even tape some tile to the wall....See Morehelp coordinating kitchen tile flooring, countertops & backsplash
Comments (6)whatever you do choose, remove the wood transition piece and have the butt the tile to the wood, separate w/tile edging. Schluter makes them in different colors. I did one between my two tiles (yes it will work w/the wood if they are the same heights) another cool idea is to piece in the wood w/the tile. you could do a porcelain hex tile in whites/grays I hope you're including an under the sink trash pull out bin. that guy in the entryway needs a new home! backsplash comes last. find your flooring and countertops first. have you gone to a stone yard to find out what you prefer? Colors? quartz or granite? narrow it down to what you like. coordinate the counter and the tile floor. look at porcelain tiles or perhaps slate. you could do a nice herringbone layout in this small space to give it some detail. this black slate is beautiful w/white and next to your reddish floors. it's easy to care for too. I've had slate for years. you have such a small space, look into pre fab countertops. they have them in marble quartz or granite and average 500 bucks for a 9'x22" countertop. you have a fabricator cut them to your kitchen . this is a pre fab marble,, or you could do a granite. all the pre fabs are against the back wall and behind the marble piece. something like this, with the slate floor, your SS and white cabs would look really nice....See MoreMidcentury kitchen restoration; help with backsplash and floors
Comments (16)By far the best plan is to know what's under the carpet. Basic Hardwood floor throughout the 2 spaces shown is in keeping of the era. The interest was not at floor level particularly , except as a backdrop : spaces started to open up w furnishings defining conversation area, peninsulas situated between kitchen and social areas etc: get hardwood down . Realistically at some point the range will get moved to get better venting so w hardwood and some planks reserved , the gaps can be pieced : you do not desire that much rearranging of the kitchen layout, but it will happen at some point....See MoreAna Santos
