Removing carpet from basement- what to replace with?

We recearly bought a vacation house where the precious owners did a good job renovating most of the basement, but installed carpet pad directly on concrete, with humidity and other issues caused musty/mold smell so we have pulled it. Thinking either lux vinyl plank or tile in case anything happens when we’re not there. We need to address 2 small bedrooms and an open area that could be used for music gear, workout or hanging out that is adjacent to laundry. The main area is already finished w faux wood tile installed at at angle that causes some problems as it’d be pretty difficult to seamlessly match or patch into, but it is great otherwise. how would you address? Pic of open space and of main area already done, bedroom doors on right in distance so those rooms wouldn’t clash as much since the transition points are only at doorway but still need to figure out what would go there. Thanks!

Can you find the same wood look tile to run it through the whole space? If not you'll have to go for a completely different look (so no more faux wood).

+1 If the tiles are 9" by 9", the are likely ACM (Asbestos Containing Materials). The tiles themselves are not the real issue because they are not very friable. The Mastic is the issue and caution should be taken when removing that as the previous poster mentioned. As a general rule, if the mastic is black, get it tested at a minimum.

That would cost way too much!! We put pecan flooring which was not the cheapest and we like it a lot. Just hard to find a match. Plus I kind of like breaking it up a bit. Are you familiar with travertine? Is it used much in bedrooms? I was thinking of the 18" x 24".

I pulled up all the carpet on the stairs but not in the hallway yet..that will probably happen this weekend as the railing is going to be replaced on Saturday. one of the steps to see if that would help and it seems ok. I found the holes from the tac strips aren't bad because they're tucked away at the sides/ends. ANd they didn't seem to leave the rough edges that the staples did. There wsn't any glue under our tac strips. DO you have pics?

Oceanna....listen to Dee! I had a similar experience. I bought this house a couple of years ago & asked the previous owner to leave the pellet stove that he had installed in the finished room in the basement. I thought that the carpet was fine (a gray berber). Long story short...he took his stove & where said stove's platform was left a 6 x 6 foot square of pristine WHITE berber carpet! I bought new carpet & "carpet man" told me that it would cost 300.00 to remove the old carpet. I figured that was something that I could do & save 300.00 I hired a couple of kids & told them 50.00 each - 2 hours later they came upstairs with a couple of handfuls of yarn! Okay I'll do it. How hard could this be? Extremely hard!!! I used a roof scraper, a dremel & any other tool that I could find. I ended up using a Fenn which fits under the carpet & cuts it away from the glue. Once the carpet was up it was really hard to get the glue off of the cement floor. Can you just lay it down & use the existing carpet as padding? Good luck - what a tough job!

we've been trying to find the same tile, but unable to so far. tiles are 8x36. and even if we did i'm a little concerned about truly matching them since they'd probably be from a different lot. no old boxes or anything to go off of to know who made them in the first place. maybe there are other tricks to trying to find the match?
