Comments (22)How fun! My daughter also does this at the grocery store she works for - Publix. They call it Aprons. She has to prepare a meal predetermined by the store and hand out samples. They hae a cooler with all the ingredients they use to make this meal so people can just grab what they need to make it, right there. She has told me stories about the people too. The most rude ones are from a retirement community that are bussed there on certain days. The biggest problem she had was people asking for more and more samples. Then one guy takes all the samples and others are left standing there and have to wait for another batch to be cooked up and then they may miss their bus back home. So she has to limit the samples to one to a person. They try all kinds of tricks, a) my wife is in the bakery, let me take it to her, b) my husband is in the car, c)it's not enough for me to know if I like it or not..... it goes on and on! I hope you have fun with this. My daughter is quitting in May when she graduates college and she will go into teaching elementary school. My guess is that she's gonna wish she was fighting off the old people again! hahahah! Good Luck to you~...See MoreDid you forget how to cook? Or ... to cook?

I got some lasagna noodles, so I'm going to slice up some yellow squash that needs using, and the fennel bulbs I just got, and whatever peppers I have, and oven roast them, to layer with the ricotta. I have a little tzimmis left which I think I'll puree into the ricotta. I got some shallots, too. And I got some lamb shanks to braise with baby carrots and pearl onions and leftover sweetish red wine. And a chicken. It's a really big chicken. They tried to tell me it was a fryer, but it's 4.5 lbs.!! I think I'll roast it with the heels of my multigrain bread if it's not gone moldy, and an orange. I can try out the probe because I have no idea (other than the butcher's recommendation) how long to cook this big a not turkey. JRueter, I'm in Gelsonsland, so it has to be an amazing farmer's market to be really tempting. And yes, some of them are more about the social thing than cooking! The worst is being at a dinner party where the hosts are name dropping the truck farmers like they're best friends rather than customers. Needs, keep us posted!!! I'm keeping a good thought for Thursday!...See MoreCooking for a family reunion with distant relatives.
Comments (6)My advice, for what it's worth, is to hire out. Have someone else cook. If these relatives are "estranged", then doing anything for which you could be blamed is to be avoided. Have it catered so that if these relatives want to find fault, it'll be with a non-relative vs a relative....See MoreFood to prepare for daughter's friends.
Comments (24)Wintercat: "--------- In many cases such reactions reflect on the guest rather than the host.-----" I was invited to a private company golf outing. Dinner was served at the end of the day. The golf outing was to honor the president of the company, who happened to be black. After a few guests went to the podium to give speeches about what a great guy the president was. It was the president's turn to give thanks and acceptance speech, " Thank you, thank you, thank you! Before I start, I want to ask you guys to save me some watermelon on the buffet table. You know how much we like watermelons ------" That totally crack everyone up. A few tables had to be cleaned up because a few guests sprayed wine all over. Yes, it depends. dcarch...See MoreIslay Corbel
