70's fluorescent lighting - how to fix it when it's recessed.
Comments (6)it's just one fluorescent light fixture set inside a box that is roughly 2'x6' and 7" deep. Because it's so long & narrow, I think you have to fill it in. Sounds like the box is set in between the ceiling joists? (How tall are the ceilings in the kitchen & living room?) Patching in with drywall is an inexpensive solution. I totally suck at drywall finishing but, lucky for me, I love Spanish knife/ skip trowel texture. It's easy & fun to do and covers up drywall oopsies. So, if that appeals to you, one option would be to patch in, tape the seams and texture & paint the ceiling in the kitchen & LR. Cost would be less than a coupla hundred dollars plus the cost of a new light fixture....See More70s Brick Ranch - Exterior Color Scheme?
Comments (8)So long as you use a ceramic or mineral based paint you should be fine painting the brick. It basically makes the maintanence that comes with painting brick disappear. The house looks a bit dark as is. I would paint, personally. It would help bring this 70s house up to date. Maybe an off white or gray to help it go with the roof. You can also get more creative with trim and shutter color this way....See MoreUpdating exterior of this 70’s ranch style
Comments (7)what kind of budget are you talking?? remove the deck, redo siding, paint brick or stucco it, new windows less costly, you could Romabio the brick, they used it on this brick (which used to be red) get diff siding, remove the shutters, paint the garage door. whatever you do decide, the shutters should be removed. RIP. if you have extra money, turn that walkout deck into more sq footage. ignore the color and style, just look at the layout. similar to yours. see how the 'deck overhang' has been enclosed? Is that something you could do? or just remove it? See how they pushed it out and did wood siding? I like this one too or, just remove the wrap around deck and make a more contemporary look like this next pic: this is one of my favorite split remodels. composite wood slat siding is a thing now. bunch of other split ranch redos Two after pics where they kept the deck check out this '68 make over https://www.curbed.com/article/nick-rachel-cope-home-tour-hudson-ny.html https://www.jimenezphoto.com/split-level-house-remodel-before-and-after/...See MoreLate ‘70’s Bathroom remodel
Comments (7)If they don't like the tile, and want to add a bathtub, this is not a cosmetic fix, it's unfortunately a full-on-to-the-studs renovation. The only easy way to get a freestanding tub in simply--without significant construction--would be to get one of those bathtubs like they have in Northern Europe wetrooms which is a lightweight metal tub on wheels with a plug in the bottom, where the water runs out of the hole in the tub and into the drain on the shower floor. Of course I can't find a picture of this when I need to....See MoreUser
