Please post photos, that would be the best way. Did you see the one posting where the poster spent $75 to refresh/redo her bathroom that was done in avocado 70's green? After her touches her bathroom looked absolutely gorgeous, so yes it is very possible to do an inexpensive remodel/redo and improve it. Of course that poster had talent and vision, which I personally don't have, but maybe you can get some ideas from some of the talented and inspired folks to help you. I can tell you that taking down tile is not hard at all unless it is the type put in in the 1920 through 1950 that is concrete/then metal lathe and that stuff is like iron. Most tile is thinset over sheetrock on walls so that stuff pops off really easily.

Here is what it looks like now after painting it Palladian Blue (thanks, sueb20, for the correct spelling): This is a spare cabinet door I have that is a dark alder (which is quite similar to cherry): I do like this much better. This shade still has a tinge of red in it. I'm wondering if I should aim for this type of finish or something without the red undertones? Also, if I were to layer a brownish/black gel stain (like a walnut or java) would it work better to reduce the red/orange of the existing stain? Other possibility could be a mahogany, but since the existing stain has quite a bit of red/orange, perhaps that'd be too much? I'm not going to sand away the entire stain there now, just enough to get off the poly layer. The cultured granite doesn't photograph too well, but it has little greyish/black flecks in it. Usually I find a java stain too dark for my taste, but I'm curious how it would look next to the cultured granite. I don't think it works too well with the existing finish--it's too orange and shiny for me, as the same time, is it fairly good shape and I don't want to ruin it. Next task, though, is to clean the grout in the floor tile and reseal before DH and DS return so the bathroom can be used again.

missadg, painting ceramic is prob easier. there are two ways that online shows you,,,one with chalk paint and a floor urethane, and the other is with a good primer and actual floor/porch paint. I've heard the latter holds up better. http://www.makedoanddiy.com/2015/09/diy-painted-tile-floor.html#more this one shows you how to prep/prime and then uses a floor paint. you can use whatever floor paint (like a porch paint) that you like. porch/floor paint is more durable than a regular latex paint. The clear coat top coat is similar to that used for wood floors, so it's also meant to be walked on. However, if you want cheap, fast, easy, you can try the chalk paint. Annie Sloan came out with a clear coat meant to go over chalk paint on floors. it's a Lacquer Clear coat that you roll on. Also, a lot of these will use stencils in order to get a pattern. This way you can incorporate your own grout lines and make the tile look like they have a diff design. like this one. CuttingEdge Stencils ( i believe they also have a tutorial) and have many designs here's one that shows the white primer (and you'll want a good oil base primer), then a gray base coat, and then the top stencil coat I think if you did something like this, you could do a solid color vanity, a white quartz top, and add any type of decor that you like. RoyalDesign Studio also has the stencils and the how-to. you can see how they upgraded this similar bathroom If you did something in a blue and white floor, then you could do the vanity in a navy, or sky blue, and bring in navy towels and shower curtain

I love vintage tile, but honestly, the treatment on the ceiling is totally overwhelming. I would consult with some tile experts to see if they could just remove the tile on the ceiling and patch it up, and restore the grout on the remaining wall and floor tile. I'd also replace the vanity top, as it's way too busy for the space. The other challenge in the first bath is that all of your fixtures are different colors - having a pink tub, a white toilet and a cream/yellow sink is too chaotic. I'd hate to get rid of the sink, but maybe going for an all white counter and sink would simplify things. The green fixtures are awesome, though - I'd just source a matching toilet seat.
