We are open to getting a new couch, but I wanted to come up with a layout I like first before committing to a purchase. We did have the TV console along the wall next to the fireplace and floated the couch in the center of the room, but it cut the room in half and when guests would come over they tended to only hang out in the area behind the couch (where we have the couch now). We are trying to figure out a way to open the room up so when we entertain, our guests will use the couch. But due to the trickiness of the room we are having a hard time trying to com up with a layout. I thought about putting the TV on the wall where we have the couch now, get a 3 seat sofa and put it under the kitchen cutout and a chair (or oversized chair) and put it on the wall with the fireplace. Wasn’t sure if it would look funny to have a chair right next to the fireplace....

Eld Thanks for your advice. These were taken during the day but it was a gloomy day. The windows are large but with the balance and thickness of the curtains they limit the light in. Those windows do face the front of our house so I do want to be mindful of that. I thought slate because it pulls in the color from the fireplace. And I think I’d prefer to not have an accent wall in this room.

So... If you are still interested in the Iris chair at all, just want to let you know the chair is actually grey, not brown. They are calling the color Pewter. It looks so brown on my monitor. You could just toss a grey lumbar into sofa pillow mix - or just simply use only one grey pillow or throw if you prefer! Gosh Keri it looks great! Love the new couch. You could try the plant on the sofa table. Is there enough room back there for a small desk? I love your idea of full wall of curtains! I would do a pattern with some blue in it. I have done a single rod with sheers in the middle and the curtains on the ends. Then there is always light coming in but it is not so bright. Might help in balancing the window space as well. If you are using the area behind the sofa, I think you should leave your couch off center. If not, it looks great centered. The wall in the dining area could have something textural… woven baskets, a metal art piece, architectural wooden piece.don’t worry about getting it right away, go spend some time and find something, maybe on your next vacation, summer flea market, etc. I would leave the walls by the window and sofa blank and put artwork above the two chairs. A large piece and two small or something like that. I really like your brass spot table. Maybe underneath the plant in the corner if it won’t wreck it.
