Fruit Thinning - Meyer Lemon tree fruiting for the first time

Myles Allan

Hello,

I'm relatively new to the world of Citrus trees. I got a Meyer Lemon tree two months ago, and it seems to be doing very well. Four blossoms grew right away, which I didn't think would be too much for the little tree to handle. Within the last few weeks the tree has blossomed like crazy. When I was doing my research I read a bit about thinning the fruit, and I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I'd like to know at what stage I should thin the fruit, if at all. How many blossoms/fruit to remove, and anything else I should know about the process. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are 10 tiny lemons on the tree right now, and a new cluster of about seven blossoms growing.
