thanks for the feedback! it may be priced on the high end, however its for the range hood as well....tomorrow when I see it I'll get a better idea of the condition. I should research resale expectation for used high end appliance.

You get a HUGE discount on used high-end appliances. I took a Viking 48" range and hood as final payment on a countertop job once. No regrets. The griddle on that thing fried the best eggs ever.

I'd buy this if I were you.

In our ongoing remodel we removed a 2001 DCS 48" all gas range. The range came with the house when we bought 8 years ago. I also had a 3rd oven, an electric 27" Thermador wall oven that I used most of the time. I found the two DCS ovens either too small or too big. They took forever to heat up ... maybe it needed a service call, but because I had that third oven I never got around to it. Once heated up the ovens worked fine. We used all 3 several times per year.

No real issues with the burners, they worked fine.

The other weird issue was the knob for the griddle. It was very sensitive and way too easy to turn on accidentally. Several times I found the stove top really hot, with the griddle on for hours, after my cleaning lady accidentally nudged it while cleaning.

The hood was a Thermador, so I didn't have the matching set. The Thermador was really noisy.

For the remodel I am going with the 48" Wolf dual fuel range and Modern-aire hood. The third oven will now be a XXL Miele convection/steam oven.

I would ask to set the large oven at 375F and see how long it takes to heat up. I think mine took close to 45 minutes to get there, but I don't know if mine had a problem or they are all that slow. I just had to take that time into account if I needed to use it.

Good news- we went to see the range and I could not be more excited. It works great and looks gorgeous. I'm a little nervous about the hood installation as the owners ceilings are 5 inches taller than ours. They have a 9 inch extension piece that I hope will come off easily- I think that will leave us with 28 inches between range and hood.

Yay! I am so happy that worked out. Congratulations.

I would look into reducing the height of the hood chimney somehow if possible. 28 inches will feel cramped and look scrunched in proportion to the width of the range.

Hmmm, I heard they went to crap after they got bought out but that prior to that many people liked them. Not sure what year that was though but something to look into. I know you're excited but I'd make 100% sure that you will be able to convert it to LP and that every single part you need is readily available. I would find a local installer who has been doing this for many years and sit down with him to discuss before buying, it's not the kind of thing you want to take chances with...if anything goes wrong the best case scenario is it just doesn't work, the other possibilities are much more serious.

You will need make up air for a cooking appliance like that. Don't forget to figure that into the overall project.

S MacD- I called the manufacturer and they gave me a list of all the parts and prices/numbers, ect... The conversion kits themselves are not sold anymore but all the parts needed are individually sold. The propane company said they convert very often; that it is very common. I am a bit nervous about that part of the equation though.

live_wire_oak- I have been reading about the make up air. It seems quite overwhelming. I think I need an expert to make a plan.
