Decorating a Mid-Century Home for the 21st century

We are buying a mid-century (1957 era) home that is very similar in design to these photos from an old magazine.

The living room has a huge brick fireplace with two chimney columns in it. There is a beautiful wall of glass overlooking the pool outside. On the opposite side of the brick fireplace is the now updated kitchen which was expanded so that the dining area is now 12x7’.

All ceilings are beamed -- maybe a 3/12 pitch?

The floor plan layout in the magazine is similar to the actual layout of the house (not exact) so you can see how the fireplace/chimney falls within the LR/Kitchen.

Any suggestions on how to decorate the space for the 21st century?
