How to support granite counter overhang w/ a front facing cabinet belo

I have a u-shaped kitchen when one end of the u is an eating peninsula. Using granite over 3/4 plywood cabinets (19" deep) and will order metal support to support a 14-16" overhang. However, one cabinet below overhang open to the front, and I'm concerned because the width of the cabinet (21") will really stress the space between the brackets.

The overall width of the peninsula is 35-3/8" wide (or up to 38" if I can support) x 65" long. There is a bracket against the wall in the 3" filler, and then the next 21" wide cabinet opens front-faced under the overhang, followed by a 3" filler and then the back of a 24" cabinet.

Will the granite break if there are not brackets over the 21" wide cabinet, and/or filler space?

Planning on a corner bracket for support where overhang is on both sides, as well as 3 other L-shaped brackets.

Looking for any advice on how you treat the space where the 21" cabinet front would be under the overhang.

Need advice please. have island 10ft long island x 4ft 2" (50inches)wide. overhang will be 12 inches down the entire 10ft length. have 24"d base cabinets plus another 12"d set of base cabinets back to back. (36 inches of base cabinets that granite will sit on). question is how many support posts will be needed down the 10ft length of overhang ?(14inch overhang) Will one support post on each end be sufficient or do I need 3? can't add metal supports into top of cabinets, not enough space between the cabinet doors and top of cabinets. no room for corbels. support posts are the only option. would like one on each end vs adding one in middle. help!

I would strongly recommend AGAINST buying ANY CounterBalance product... they will completely hose the homeowner / DYI consumer. Just compare the price for the brackets between http://counterbalanceshop.com and http://www.chemical-concepts.com/counterbalance.php The same product will cost you $114 at the first site and $81 at the second. Really??? THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME VENDOR. I tried to place an order based upon the info on the Chemical site (didn't even know about the counterbalance site) and they wouldn't honor the price posted. Don't do business with this vendor who isn't interested in doing business with you. Vendor's words: "I could care less about" selling to consumers. STAY AWAY !!! Find a local machine shop who is interested in doing business at a fair price/profit. The product is a VERY simple job for any machine shop to produce. Chemical concepts doesn't even make the product -- they sell glue. For the person who wanted to know where they could get metal support bars, here is an option: http://metalworking.mscdirect.com/CGI/MWSRCH?N=32003649 I don't have any experience with them, so I don't know if their prices/policies are good or bad. This has really turned into a mixed topic thread - but I'm back to the original overhang support issue. I checked out the supports in the link Katrina posted and Joe said he thought were good. They all require notching the top edge of the cabinet. With IKEA, there is that metal bar that spans the tops of their base cabinets from side to side in the front as well as the back. That's what actually supports the counter and it obviously can't be notched. So I'm back to my original idea which was to run a steel tube bar across the span supported by pony walls on each end of the overhang. (Joe said the fabricator could even embed this into the solid surface but I'm not sure I would bother with that). I would put bar about 6 inches from the edge of the counter - midway of the 12" overhang depth. I understand that we need to be sure the top edge of the bar is perfectly flush with the top edge of the counter supports on the cabinets (those pesky metal bars that IKEA uses on top of the base cabinets). Is there any reason that wouldn't work? I am trying to contact my fabricator to discuss this, but in the area where I am doing this kitchen, there are no nearby IKEA's so I'm pretty sure he wont even understand how IKEA cabinets are made.

You could have your fabricator cut slots into the bottom of the stone and fill the slots with stainless steel or composite rods set in a bed of epoxy or acrylic adhesive designed for rodding. 30" long at a minimum and spaced every 16" or so. Alternatively, you could run a 2" steel square tube between the three posts and set the stone on that. Painted flat black and set in 3" or so, it will be somewha inconspicuous. Check your door swings first, please.

Sorry Sophie. I'm out of the house due to renovations and had connectivity issues. I'm uploading a picture of the peninsula (long side and short side) and an overall layout for the kitchen. The issue is the left side cabinet under the long side opens under the peninsula, and the right side cabinet open on the side without the overhang. So I hang hang brackets on the right side cabinet back, but am concerned about the space between bracket at the very end of the left side which will be attached to the wall. It's then 24" until the back of the right cabinet.

Sorry -for the duplicates - this is the short side panel that will have a corner angle bracket and no issue because all brackets can be affixed to the back of the cabinet below.

This is a copy of the long side of the peninsula, where the cabinet opens under the underhang. The far left will have a bracket mounted to the wall. Any way to have a bracket before the 21" cabinet that is next ends?? with a 3" filler I'm worried that with such a deep overhang its weak to go so long without a bracket.
