Over the years I have been blessed to share the friendship of so many here. Both on the forum and in person. We have shared recipes, experiences, and personal milestones. Both good and not so good.

This is Canada Day weekend and as usual I will be having the whole Fam Damily for the weekend. But this year we have a new treasure.....Meredith's little man.

It was a journey getting him here safely for both of them....but here he is and both Mom and baby are doing fine,,,Daddy is expected to recover fully

Meet Callen....Cal ..... two weeks old.

Peppi , I am Nana...as was my Mom and her Mom..could not imagine anything else

Thanks everyone... ..he is so perfect and a very good baby..not that Mom and Dad have that figured out ...but trust me his is. If left to his own he will sleep 5 hours in the night,,,but Mom has been told to feed every three hours ,,...so she wakes him.

Who the hell wakes a sleeping baby at 3 AM to feed them...she will learn real quick !

Here is my Canada Day prize...at three weeks old does this baby look like he needs to be wakened to feed ?!?!?!?

I had an Endless Summer in NC that bloomed 3X annually. It was about 5X5 sheltered by the house such that it only received morning sun and had no competition from tree roots. The color was garish, sorta turquoise, surely some anomaly due to soil type (I only fed it Rose Tone, every plant in my life gets Rose Tone LOL). I'm going to try a Blushing Bride at this house to get the rebloom without a need for sunglasses. I also had a hedge of five Bluebird lacecaps. They were stunning! The bloom period lasted about a month then the spent blooms persisted and turned interesting shades. The nicest hydrangeas I have yet seen were in coastal Connecticut/Long Island.

I don't park my car in the driveway, but didn't want the birds messing on it so I'd go out every night after dark and rattle the high branches with a VERY long bamboo pole. After two or three nights of this the birds, thinking a predator is after them, stopped roosting in that tree. If you rattle only the low branches they will simply move up higher not wanting to fly at night. But it's only a temporary cure because a new batch of birds will move in after a couple of weeks so you have to keep doing it every three or four nights at least. It worked, but I finally got tired of doing it and now just hose the drive way every few days with the the rational that the droppings are good fertilizer for the blue plumbagos growing along the side of it. They do seem especially healthy and bloom a lot there. LOL I've noticed that some people put a cover over their car at night when they park it under a tree. Noooooooo - I'm not gonna stop feeding them. That's what annoys DH. (grin) I'll just hang crap all over the house to spook them off the house! LOL I'm an animal person. He had a problem with a bird in his grill and couldn't keep them out. I told him get a cover. He wouldn't. So I suggested he get another grill. One for the birds, one for him. (grin) He looked at me like I grew 3 heads. (grin) And said "Yea, that would be YOUR solution." Re: Nature, food, etc. I had a very bad experience in CA. A raven raided a small Finch nest. It was horrible. The screaming, the babies, and at one point, I couldn't distinguish between who was screaming, me or the other birds. Blood everywhere. I started hurling rocks and banana peels and anything I could find on my deck. Screaming as I ran down the road hurling stuff in the air. (Yep, I looked like a lunatic) I tried to save the one remaining baby. The raven came back looking for it. That gave me the willies. Momma was feeding it - but I think it fell out of the makeshift nest I made. It was only days from fledging. Maybe it made it. I'll never know. I don't cope well with that. Little too much National Geographic in my back yard. I know it goes on, but I don't need to see it. Later when I was feeding a young raven, Pepper, I made sure he had PLENTY of dog food. Doesn't need to eat my baby birds. (grin) I agree about the building out. We have lots of deer around here. We're trying real hard not to build so hard that we decimate their area. They're so beautiful.

The nice thing about aged cheddar, depending on the sharpness, is that you can pair almost any wine with it. In most cases, you can treat it like you would a Parmesan. I think most people might lean towards a red like a Cabernet or a Merlot. Almost any red will work. But I'm going suggest something different and go white instead. Try a Viognier. I once went "out of the box" and served this white with a course ground mustard crusted beef tenderloin and it was a hit. It's a little spicy yet fruity so it can stand up against the cheddar without being too heavy. It's similar to a Gewurztraminer, which is more commonly available and also something you can try. HTH

The best thing is the headlights as they drive in. After a few days, the second best thing is the tail lights as they leave. That is only if you have a 'fam damily' ... with a heavy dose of 'outlaws'

Oh Sharon, I'm so happy he's here safely and that Meredith is doing well too. I suspect Himself and The Father will eventually recover fully. (grin) And what a handsome boy he is!

Have a wonderful weekend with the Fam Damily, my Grandpa used to say that too, I haven't thought of it in a very long time. I suspect there will be lots of food and drinks and cuddles for the little one and just an all out good time. Enjoy it all!

I was thinking of you and the new one a couple of days ago, so I'm glad to know he's here...

31??? It seems like just last year or so Meredith was coming to Australia with school! Where did the time go?

Oh, those strokable little eyebrows...

(I used to stroke DD's eyebrows slowly with one finger as she was falling asleep, then that became a trigger to encourage her to sleep :-) )

Colleen, I used to do the same thing to Ashley, your birthday twin, and then with Makayla. Ashley used the same trick with Madison, works like a charm!

Hopefully this one won't need that kind of "persuasion", he'll just sleep like an angel. (Hopefully...)

I started yesterday with Annie's two and today with this bundle of joy, Chase! I'm laughing that Dad is expected to fully recover HA! I still remember that kind of glazed look:)

Thank you, Sharon. I also feel that my life is richer and fuller having met the people on this forum, both the ones here now and the ones who used to be.

That poor little baby, though, why he's nearly starving. (grin) Definitely wake him up and feed him! And is that hair curly, a little? What a sweetheart, 5 hours sleeping at a time is amazing. Heck, Ashley doesn't do that yet, and she's 30!

Chase, I feel my life has been greatly enriched by the friends that I have met here. There are so many people that I have grown to love and respect that are on this forum. I have some great pictures, on another computer, during our visit. I'll need to round those up one day and post them. How long ago was your trip down here to Lake Charles? If I remember correctly it was 2009?

Thank you Sharon. It was a highlight of our trip to Canada to spend the day with you and "himself"! We also loved meeting you both on your Route 66 trip. I've definitely been enriched by knowing (and some virtual friends too) Annie, Lars, Eileen, Sherry, Peppi, David, Karen, Katie, Cathy, Sharon, Maureen, Carol (Dishesdone), Diana, and Helene. ( Apologies to those that I've missed listing).

Callen is so perfect! He appears to be the most content little love! Even though my grandsons are now tween and teen, (and driving me insane right this minute) , I wouldn't trade the title of Nini for anything!
