Comments (7)I have below grade concrete poured foundation walls in my basement from 1928. I have no visible seepage through the walls but the concrete is deteriorating and flaking off. should I scrape away the loose stuff and stucco over the cavities with a portland sand mix, and if so can i then paint it and what should i use. I would like to finish the basement and do away with any dust factors etc. Or should i just leave it and frame and rock over it....See MoreMoving/removing concrete block interior walls in a basement
Comments (1)Can you see any floor joists? Do the floor joists run perpendicular to the wall? Is this wall near the middle of the house? A picture of the floor joists at the wall would be helpful. If it is load bearing you should consult an engineer to make a plan. If not load bearing, it can be removed with a concrete saw / blade and a sledgehammer. If using concrete saw, plug into a GFCI outlet and employ a garden hose (and probably a friend to hold said hose) to control dust. You will need breathing, eye, and ear protection....See MoreConcrete block fill for some R value?
Comments (9)Watched a video of a guy who sprayed foam spray stuff or into a 2 liter bottle. Unless he used forced steam into the bottle at the same time as applying it, it did not cure. I think with the brick I am going to have the same issue. I am going to try and call them today but I feel that it is out. Might just do the Poly beans, if getting wet is the only issue then I think I should be ok. If the inside of the wall gets wet I have bigger problems I would guess. I am just worried about the off gassing. They still sell vermiculite but seems like only in garden applications and I don't want to create an Ant Farm or any other kind of insect farm....See MoreCan CMU block be filled with foam?
Comments (2)You can't stop water penetration by spraying foam into block cavities. There are still many paths for water to come through the block. Concrete remains porous indefinitely. The most common alternative is to waterproof the inside of the block using closed cell foam, demo the floor perimeter and install a french drain inside the wall to capture the water, and route all the water to a sump pump.
