Oh my How life is about to change....
Comments (38)Thanks again for the kind words everyone. House has been listed for two weeks, tons of showings and a few nibbles. One couple have been back 3 times but no offers : ( My personal opinion is the agent has it priced too high, but they are the pros and similar properties, in the neighbourhood, have sold for the price they listed at. Actually I'm ready to drop the price by a ton just so I don't have to keep everything so spotless! Ugh! OK ladies it's been over a week. All those mammos booked!! It's bad enough hearing "you have stage 1 breast cancer but it is fully treatable" but way worse to hear "you have stage 4 breast cancer we'll do what we can..."...See MoreHow hard/expensive is it to change cabinet color? Comments (4)Above poster is right. You need to make sure it is WOOD and not painted particle board or the like. I stripped and re stained all of the cabinets in my entire house. I started with the smallest area and worked on the little issues, etc before I tackled the kitchen. If you have 2 adults who are capable of stripping/staining, then the kitchen could be done in a week IF you have ample space to lay all of the doors/drawers to dry/be stained. You'd also need to dedicate full days to it. It isn't HARD by any means. It is time consuming because of the number of steps involved and dry time. That said, I spent around $150 to restain my kitchen cabinets. Stripper, brush for stripper, mineral spirits, sand paper, application sponges, stain and polyurethane, and rated mask because the stuff is POTENT. For having them done professionally, a friend of mine who is a kitchen designer in the area said I'd saved about $7-8K by doing it myself. I'm in Orange County, CA. Comments (20)I'm figuring that Dagleish could help Hamlet solve the mystery and bring Uncle to a legal justice, then Ophelia wouldn't go mad, Hamlet wouldn't go all whiny and navel-gazing, he and O would get married and rule a peaceful, prosperous Denmark. I think Dagleish is dreamy, but I am honestly too tired for a dalliance. So he can just retire with honors after all is neat and tidy. I'd also like to smack some sense into Romeo and Juliet. Talk about leaping before you look! How about inviting R&J and Dr. Phil. Oh-he's sort of real. Never mind. About the alarm clock-I do love it, especially the hypnotic "go to sleep" countdown...but in the interests of full disclosure I should tell you that the case is plastic....See MoreLife before/Life after: major midlife changes--would you do it again?
Comments (18)Ha, Rockybird, that is a tale of adventure! Brave lady. Robo, I think I missed out on reading What Color is Your Parachute when I should have read it in my 20's. Or maybe I lacked the self-awareness to understand what I really value and enjoy in my work. One thing you mentioned is coworkers, and my job is performed in near total isolation from colleagues, which is one of the factors motivating me to want to change. Honestly, I think if I could find a position in my field or any other where I could relegate work to the role of "just work" in my life that would be half the battle. It's the kind of job that weighs heavily on my mind even when I'm not there. But I also think that even if some evil twist of fate meant I had to stay in the same job until retirement, there are lots of other ways to significantly change one's life for the better. New hobbies, new social connections--or letting go of those that weigh you down more than sustain you--learning new skills that may not be for a job but that are fulfilling....See Moremarilyn_c
