Olychick, I totally agree with you about variation and depth. That's what I was going for, even though I know I haven't achieved it yet. I love texture in decorating. I bet softening even just a few of the edges more will go a long way towards what you're saying. This is definitely a work in progress. I really wish the lighting was better. I will dig out my real camera and try to get some better shots. Thanks, rafor. I also agree with you about the sharp edge of the top of the white panel. DH suggested dental moulding, but I don't like that idea. I'm more inclined to put up a thin, one- or two-inch shelf with shells and stuff up there as I describe in my OP to funk up the top of it...haha...love that!

Depending on the color there are many possibilities but without a picture it's impossible to advise. I am currently remodeling my master bedroom and the bed is upholstered in what I call dusty pink mohair but the name of the fabric is "mauve". My accent color is rich teal blue and I am using a Karastan Kirman which has a lot of colors in it. My bedroom furniture is a middle tone stained wood. If mauve is in the pink family there are lots of colors that complement depending on the shade and your taste. I know Houzz has articles on how to decorate with pink which would let you see which kinds of color schemes you are attracted to - black? gray? - these are pretty obvious.

I'm not a fan of any of those options...for various reasons. Mostly because the style/scale as well as the tone doesn't look like it would compliment the bed.....although without links hard to know. The Bernhardt nightstands in your pic from Haverty's are 40 W x30 H x21 D. That is why they don't look dwarfed by the bed. Do you have room to do something like the pic Penny posted? Basically a simple open rectangle with a sturdy leg? Another thing I'd consider is taking a look at kids' dressers/desks.
