I just keep all my roses in gopher cages, and have no problems. But I do laugh when I see a ring of gopher mounds around a caged rose. On a related subject, I was going crazy with my son's cat who is a rat killing machine. There are weeks when I end up with 2 or 3 dead rats in the house, or patio. So, I came up with a new program called "Rats for Roses" Each time the cat brings me a dead rat, I bury it under one of my rose bushes. I have about 30 roses, so I just keep buring them , eventually all 30 roses end up with a nice little bonemeal/bloodmeal treat. By the time all 30 have been given a rat, the first rose is ready for another one. It's good for the roses, and it gives the little fellers a decnt burial....See Moregot some kitchen things, have a question...
Comments (10)It looks like a standard inexpensive combination stone, not a water stone. It has one coarser (start) side and one finer (finish) side. If it were a water stone, it should say that on the box. Water stones are very soft and crumble. The water actually forms a slurry or paste with the disintegrating stone and that's what sharpens the blade. For a regular oil stone you need either a light mineral oil (drugstore) or you could use a 3-in-1 oil like sewing machine oil. Whatever you start out with you want to continue with. The oil is actually to prevent the stone from being gummed up with metal filings. In other words, it's a kind of protective barrier, so be generous with it. If you find your stone is no longer sharpening and seems to be gummed up, you can clean it with plain soap and water. Air-dry and then re-apply oil. If you have questions when you're sharpening, post again. And enjoy your purchases, especially the flexible mats! You'll love those. Comments (7)Usually when you buy seeds, it'll list days to harvest or days to flower, it's really means how many days after you transplant a healthy seedling or small plant to soil. And they usually mean when the first fruit is ripe. They really try to stretch the number. I have seen claims of 45days to harvest for sungold tomato, which actually is more like 80days to get a decent harvest of fully ripen tomatoes. Before that, the germination and seedling stage could be 4 to 6 weeks depend on where you are, especially if you're starting indoor before the last frost. So you're looking at between 15 to 20 weeks total for tomatoes. Also they love to over saturate the color of the actual fruit or flower on their website....See MoreLady in Red Climbing Rose & other Weeks Roses
Comments (29)Vapor ... it was all a coincidence! I went to my local nursery on the one day a year they have a sale for easy spirit rose . It was pouring buckets , but I wanted that discount! I was sprinting to the check out building with my large rose , my toddler who didn't want to walk in mud in the other hand , and a gentleman opened the door for me. Turns out he is the president of the Nashville chapter . He grabbed the rose from me and was giving me the newbie rundown on roses . So we started talking and I told him I wasn't new to roses .. he invited me to the meeting the next day and was so welcoming! He then told me all new members get a rose and he had one just for me .. "lady in red! You can't get it anywhere, it's new " he said . I smiled and said I would be there ! So now I have two lady's , and I really enjoyed the meeting. There is definitely some opinions there about everything.. just like here. ;) I found out the VP lives just down the road so we are arranging to see each other's garden . I encourage you to try a meeting !! Even if I can't make every meeting, they have discounts on roses and things in the spring and I can't wait to see the open gardens people have . Sorry for the essay ! Lol...See Moremmmm12COzone5
