Twin over Full Bunkbeds for a tiny, low-ceiling room
Comments (18)I would not do bunks with low ceilings, but my college dorm had bunks we could configure into a taller and lower bed and most of us used the taller with the lower one tucked under one corner like 2/3 of what mjlb posted. I was going to suggest something like that, even with a full or queen on the bottom because you only need clearance for foot and leg space -- not head clearance. My grandmother's guest room at one point had what were then called Hollywood studio or daybeds -- two twins tucked into a corner, often with a large square table in the corner that one of the beds slid under or both beds could just push up to it. I saw some with elevated shelves in the back or other clever details (update the idea with a docking or charging station, etc.). Either of these options could also have a trundle underneath too -- if you have room to pull it out....See MoreHave you seen this bed in a twin size.
Comments (36)linley - Thanks for the link! I couldn't find the reviews before, but now I see them over on the side. les - I would have never guessed that Martha Stewart headboard was an old door. It's gorgeous! That being said, I'm not a crafty person, and with all the overtime I've been working lately, I just don't have the desire or energy to be creative right now. I'm going to measure the room and if the double will fit, I'll let Justin decide if he'd rather have the bigger bed or extra space. dilly dally - I've always been such a matchy matchy person, which is a habit I'm trying to break. If I got that bed in the cherry, would I get a chest somewhere else in cherry or would I need to get a different wood? I'm just worried about making it look right. What if I went with the black bed? Do you think it would look okay if the chest wasn't the same shade of black? Laurie...See More3 kids sharing 2 rooms with big age gaps
Comments (17)I'm taking a different point of view. I was one of seven children--five boys, two girls. There are very few eight bedroom houses out there. We all shared rooms until the older kids started going off to college. When we were little, I shared a room with my older brothers. Once I got a baby sister--eight years younger--I shared a room with her. True, it was a pain in the neck sometimes, having to go to bed and get undressed in my room without turning the lights on because she went to bed earlier than I did, but it did not scar me for life. My take would be that in a few years, your daughter should get her own room. That could happen when your older son goes off to college, or the two boys could share a room, if there's someplace else for the older boy to do his homework, etc., after the little one goes to bed. But I would also look around the house and see if there was any other space that could be used for your office. Maybe 1/3 of the garage, leaving a two car garage? (I think a one car garage just wouldn't fly today.) Or the dining room, or your bedroom? And talk to your kids and see what they say. My cousin had three kids in five years and for a while they all slept in the same room. When she wanted to move the two girls into their own room, they were upset--they didn't want to leave their baby brother all alone at night. So the parents had to work out a schedule to transition them all to the new sleeping arrangement....See Moretwin or full bed
Comments (66)I love reading all the replies. Thanks!!!!! We are definitely going with the twin. My Mom reminded me that she has one; it's cute. So, we are using it. We will have to purchase the mattress and bedding but it won't be as much as an investment as originally. PBK has bedding that I really like but I hear that the quality is not as good. Any thoughts on other brands I should check out?...See MoreBeverlyFLADeziner
