Having to roll our rugs, will they be okay?
Comments (9)I just pulled 3 rugs out of storage that had been stored rolled up. The longest had been in there about 3 years, the shortest about 8 months. They were all fine. I rolled them just as bronwynsmom suggested, including pad on the outside, but I added a barrier between the rug and the pad. I then tied them (loosely) with sissal cord, just so that I could move them more easily. The one that was stored the longest was also wrapped in a large rug shipping bad taped shut to make sure no buggies could get into it. FWIW, before I did any of this, I emailed a guy I found online who was in charge of textile displays at a museum. I wanted his advice on hanging the rugs on the wall without damaging them. I also asked his advice on short- and long-term storage. So hopefully, these tips come with some good knowledge behind them....See Moresitting space, rug okay, but now a chair question
Comments (54)val - thanks for more ideas. Hopefully I can bribe my brother-in-law to give us a hand moving things on Friday night. One of the problems moving these chairs is that they can't be tugged on the rug at all because of the texture of the rug. I'm afraid it would damage the rug. They do have felt pads on them in case they end up partway on the floor. franksmom - I LOVE that story. Hubby giggled too. I have a little 2 door Honda but I've been amazed at what I can get into it. loribee - thank you! I am starting to love it too, even with the moving around hassles. I think I want to see more rug and slightly angled. I went looking for pillows today and couldn't find any that I liked. I wanted small solid brown ones. I'll look around on Ebay and Etsy. (Please, no one tell me to make them because I just don't do that sort of thing.) I did pick up a brown throw though because we always another one of those downstairs. I also picked up a couple of lamps but think I might have messed up on the shade. I was tired of shopping and I was all the way home again when I realized the shades were those leather ones that I don't think will give off much light. We'll see. I'll get things put together and take some more pictures. And loribee, I don't NOT love the Cloes. I did go back in an sat in one with my feet tucked under me and that works. I don't think it's the leather. I think I'm just old and broken and don't fit many chairs. Since these will not get a ton of use, I don't think it matters. I do love to look at them, though. :) That counts for something....See Moredo these bad pictures of an old Persian rug make it look okay?
Comments (21)Your rug appears to be quite a good one. It looks almost exactly like a 3 1/2' x 5' that I inherited from my parents, especially in the colors and patterns. I took mine for a cleaning about a year ago by an Oriental rug specialist out here and he explained to me the following, which possibly might apply to yours: Mine is an Iranian Sarouk and was imported to the States around 1918-1925. Sarouks were extremely popular then, but American buyers preferred heavier colors, so after arriving in the States the reds and darker blues were re-dyed to enhance them. If you turn the rug over it should show the exact detailed pattern, but in more pale hues (quite pretty actually). The dealer also said that my rug was worth around $3,000. He said that if well-cared for - vacuumed, occasionally cleaned, and kept free of pet stains it should last another 75 years. I've also been told that these rugs like bare feet on them; that's how they were originally made to be walked on. I think your parents' rug is a beauty and well-worth having! Google "Sarouk carpets" to learn more and compare colors and designs....See MoreRound or square jute rug in this room? help!!!
Comments (4)Even though room is square, with the items along the right side of room, looks like floor space would be a rectangle. I would use a rectangle shape placed as far over as you can so chair doesn’t potentially catch on its edge - suggest a flat weave as well jute will make chair’s mobility more difficult due to its thickness If you want a natural rug, sisal is typically thinner...See MoreCarolyn Albert-Kincl, ASID
