Caution: More Lovely Old Roses with picture!!!s
Comments (28)Hi again, rose friends! Just popping in to say 'thank you' to all of you for your enthusiasm, kind words, and for appreciating roses like I do. That 50-degree day was short-lived. I guess I shouldn't have gotten so excited. Tonight it is down to 17 degrees.....tomarrow it will struggle to get out of the twenties. Winter is hanging on. melva....,my Duchesse de Buccleugh is about 5 1/2 feet tall; she is only a couple of years old though....not sure of her mature dimensions. (I'm not sure if it will get the same size in your warmer climate or not.) york rose.....believe it or not, with over 350 rosebushes I still water all my roses by hand, by myself. We live out in the woods so we have our own artesian well (very deep) so I never have had to worry about running out of water, just time and patience....lol. Watering all those roses is probably my least favorite rose-chore, especially getting all tangled up in the extra-long hoses. Krista....its good to know you see what I see in 'John Hopper'.....he's FINE. Carla....Thanks for your sweet comment! organic....Yes, she is a DIVA, that Gloire des Mousseux...lol! Gean....so glad you are getting something out of my posts...thanks. I like 'introducing' you all to the roses, because I am so enthusiastic about them. aroidgardener....Excellenz is a wonderful, charming rose. You were SO smart in getting that one! I forgot to mention that the blooms last a very long time on the bush and are great for bouquets. Mark....Happy Spring to you as well....thank you for taking the time to read my post and for letting me know you enjoyed it! Tammy....Pinks are my favorites as well. I have way more pink roses than any other color. Eric....careful of those roses....they like to whip out a thorny cane when our backs are turned! Centifolia variegata is the sneakiest of my roses....I swear she waits for me to turn around and hooks me like a big fish and reels me in...lol. (but I love her still) Deb....I think you are right....roses do need that extra caress and a few 'sweet nothings' once in awhile. My neighbors can attest to the fact that I am in love with my roses....quite a few times I have gotten weird looks from them when they hear me talking and there's nobody there....lol. twohuskies.....I know what you are going through....I placed all my rose orders early and yet I am still pining away for yet more roses that I don't have room for! I am running out of land, time, money, etc. but I can't stop myself! Luxrosa...Pink or white Albas...there is nothing more beautiful. I am glad you know this too! And I can well understand your wanting to marry Long John Silver. I have him too, and he's a charmer. He can make you weak in the knees, can't he? Rose-fever is one 'sickness' I hope I never recover from....lol. Thanks, everybody! Celeste...See MoreWill this make us look bad: excluding drapes from contract?
Comments (43)Don't know if it's a regional thing, but when we bought this house, the seller left the blinds but she wanted the curtains for her new place (and I didn't want them anyway so not a big deal). I've since replaced all the blinds she left with cellulars. When we looked at this house, a lot of things did not convey and their agent mentioned what didn't convey as we walked thru (here in the NE both buyer and seller agent is at the showing). I remember thinking at the time, why didn't they just take down (or out) what wasn't staying, but it would have been pretty stark and not at all homey looking without some of these things. None of these non-conveyable items were in the listing but it didn't matter that much to us as our decorating style was completely different....See MoreCurtains for (formal) Dining Room with colorful Persian Rug
Comments (41)sergeantcuff, eastautumn, and ingrid, I love all of your rooms. Persian rugs make a room, IMO. Since my budget is very limited I decorate around the most commonly found colors in them-- the more unusual colors are out of my reach. Thankfully, I am a huge fan of red anyway. My rugs in my LR (I needed 2 since it's a long, narrow room) and DR are all old and at least slightly worn. I'd love to know what the rugs have seen over all these years in their different homes. sergeantcuff, I think I would only change the lace if you don't feel they are "you" or you are simply tired of them. If you are looking for custom, consider https://bestfabricstore.com/ I bought some nice linen fabric from them and wish I had had used the workroom too... but I am doing it myself to save money. (Now I just need a huge chunk of uninterrupted time.) The prices are very reasonable, even lined, for basic curtains. eastautumn, your stained trim is so pretty. My home also has (dark) stained trim but it's not "beefy" so I don't like it at all. It provides just enough color to be annoying to work with without adding any real value... but it would be a pain to get rid of....See Morehelp make old kitchen look modern on a budget
Comments (21)If you look through some European websites you'll see quite a lot of neutral non-wood cabinets, so yours are not really off-trend. And the addition of neutral-toned wood is also very popular. One thing that is different is that these neutral bases are often spiced up with some really bright colors, often bright green which is a nice appetizing color for a kitchen. Imagine yours with wall art that's very bright green and eye-catching - maybe edible plants. Add a bright green rug and maybe even the same bright color on a wall. That will give it an updated look at little cost. Light fixture could be modern or retro - please no overhead lights. Can you add undercabinet lighting now that could be used in your new kitchen later?...See MoreFori
