Paint Design Dilemma living room

I can’t decide on our built in color!!!

Any thoughts would be appreciated!!! We are doing custom built ins in our living room since we cannot find a piece big enough or open enough. Planning on a cabinet base with open and closed shelving and floating shelves above with a crown molding piece at the top. We have a neutral home... current colors are: walls- SW agreeable grey, trim & mantle- SW pure white, kitchen island- SW black walnut stain

We are trying to decide what color(s) to paint/stain our built ins next to the fireplace which can be seen from the kitchen!

Your fireplace location doesn't offer the clearances needed to place a built in in the area where your TV is placed currently. Do you see how a built in might overhang the existing wall?

Some type of floating media/storage unit might be your best direction. See examples below.

You should get more help if you post in the Home Decorating area. I am not very familiar with SW colors. For the ceiling you could compare their ceiling white with your trim color and choose between those. If you like Steely Gray but worried that it might be too dark, you could get it mixed at 50% or 75%. I would get samples and paint sample boards to try out the colors in the room. Also consider what color towels. You have a lot of dark but also a good amount of white in the room.

Have you looked at other Wedding venues and tried to pick their brains on all the issues you need to be aware of in setting this plan in motion? Have you considered building with a Bed and Breakfast Inn and make your living quarters part of a house and eventual complex. This is what I am talking about developing a Master Plan. Actually, a Business Plan as well. Get educated on local codes, zoning etc. because there might be areas that simply won’t let you do what you want to do. This is another reason to sit down with an architect and s/he can outline potential issues. Then weave in your personal short term objectives. Start with the end in mind. You may be jumping into the pool at the deep end to start to learn how to swim. It can be done, but you can drown too. Any home should have every bedroom with ensuite bathroom. At some point, you might want a separate home and then this house would be readily converted to a B&B for guests of wedding party members etc. it is an exciting venture but get informed. Meet with people who understand and can help you gain knowledge before you go much further. Hoping to help you avoid costly mistakes. This is not a small endeavor.

Love your inspiration color. Maybe lighten it up by 25%. I think paints have stuff added to them to slow fading. I would remove the shutters. Then maybe a blue or lime green for the door

Would not paint oak cabinets in good condition myself, however, your kitchen should reflect your taste. Would keep all the whites (except the flat white ceiling) the same white so you don't end up with "dingy" white amid a more true or bright white. Have you considered just painting the upper cabinets and wall white but leaving the lower cabinets with a natural oak finish? Do you have a drawing of where your built ins are going? Your fireplace is not only in a corner, but flush to wall, so I am concerned no matter what colour they are, the built ins are going to dominate over the fireplace.

We are planning to angle the shelving and start approx 18” to the right where our temp cabinet is. The photo is hard to read the scale, but the space of the wall is 9.5 ft to the opposite wall with 12ft ceilings.

Thank you, Beverly! The next to last look is more what I am looking for and obviously not butting it up directly to the fireplace. I also considered adding L shelves and an angled cabinet in the opposite corner to balance...

With the fireplace in the corner, the only way that I see any built-ins working is to recess them into the wall. Is there a room behind that wall that you can steal some space from?

Or remove the fireplace and put the built-ins there. I suppose that you could remove the mantle and do cabinets in front of the fireplace, too. Depends on whether or not the fireplace is important to you. (It's been at least five years since I used mine.)

Besta is awesome the top of the builtin should be level with the fireplace mantel and that would also keep the T.V at the proper viewing height and no shelving with stuff on it at all your fireplace should be the focal point so less is more in this case for sure.
