Strange black "tire marks" on new white oak hardwood floors. HELP!
Comments (38)You are correct in that using a drum sander is not at all DIY friendly. But it's the only way to correctly sand a floor down to smooth and ready to finish. You will take years trying to do the same thing with an orbital. The rental rate for the sander is going to be more than hiring the right pro with the right equipment....See MorePorcelain tile that looks most similar to white oak hardwood floors?
Comments (5)Try searching for European Oak. The colour you are showing is more commonly seen with European Oak. You will need to search the internet for photos then find the maker of the tiles AND THEN you find the closest retailer who carries the manufacturer. They probably won't carry the EXACT tiles but if they carry the brand you can special order the product. Right now the pale wheat colour is not very popular in wood-look tiles. It might come in...but it might not. Be aware that if you find a manufacturer you are most likely looking at a special order and special orders carry special price tags. They cost more and they rarely have the option to cancel or back out of the order. A quick Bing search for European Oak wood look tiles shows this: https://www.wayfair.ca/home-improvement/pdp/supreme-tile-birch-glazed-6-x-36-porcelain-field-tile-mxem1395.html It is very close to what you want. With that price tag, that is going to be a VERY expensive installation. But it looks very close to the COLOUR you want. Remember: the colour is more important than the 'wood species' the tile is trying to mimic....See MoreMaple or White Oak Hardwood Floor for Wheelchair User + Finish Advice
Comments (0)Hello, Houzzers! We're building a home... hubby will need wheelchair soon. We want hardwood floors throughout, except at entryways, etc. We had our hearts set on white oak hardwood. Now we're thinking about maple because it's a bit harder. Don't like hickory, too busy visually for us. We're not wild about maple's color shift to margarine yellow, so we'd probably use Loba UV Protect to keep the yellow at bay. But we still like white oak better. Questions: 1. If we use the Loba UV product, how long will that UV protection last? 2. Will Loba 2K Supra AT as the top coats (3?) provide enough protection from a wheelchair? 3. Is maple that much harder than white oak, or do you think white oak will be tough enough for wheelchair abuse? 4. Our builder suggested pre-finished flooring, says it will be tougher. If we need it to be refinished in a few years, that may be trickier than just regular hardwood. Or is he correct? Thank you!...See MoreRed Oak Hardwood floors- Want natural white oak look
Comments (3)@millworkman Thank you for your feedback. I know they will not look the same as they are different woods, but I am hoping to find something that will get me that lighter color with the least undertones if that makes sense....See MoreCharles Ross Homes
