Dark Area on New Rug - Character or Character Flaw?
Comments (11)msrose - sorry I was out of town for a few days and couldn't respond. Yes, the wall color is BM Wilmington Tan. always - yes, the spot appeared to move, but when my hubby took it back to the store, it was not easy to see at all in the store. Fortunately, the store took it back anyway, and they will be sending a new rug in the next 10 days. I hope the new rug doesn't have this problem. hilltop - thanks - you just confirmed what we have been thinking. Let's see what happens when the new rug arrives....See MoreFront Door Opens to Living Area: Furniture & Area Rug Placement
Comments (21)In case anyone who gave me any previous advice happens to see this, I just wanted to say thank you again! I haven’t posted follow up pictures (but I will)- just wanted to find the right rugs and get everything done first. I work full time so have been finishing the look in my spare time... and absolutely love it. I did end up painting the window casings back to white (but leaving the doors black) and between that and the new layout, the whole area feels so much bigger and brighter and happier. Posting on here was a very positive and productive experience, and I hope if (okay- when) I post again about some of my other rooms, you’ll jump in to give me some awesome ideas!...See MoreHelp Brightening Dark Office w/ Dark Heirloom Rug
Comments (13)At that height, I don't think it is a chair rail, it is a picture rail. Those are unique antique fixtures and hard to come by. I wouldn't remove, but I would not have a separate color for the lower half. I would consider the wall all one and paint it all the same, and then use the picture rail to hang the boards. Does not really matter how you paint, either light or dark. Lighting and window will make most difference in how "light" the room is. Vibrant colors can also make a room feel more cheery, if not "lighter." Up to you which way to go. A little green can go a long way, you might consider some plants. I hate watering them and have a tendency to kill indoor plants, even though I am a horticulturalist. I am like the plumber who always has a leaky faucet at home. I tend to ignore my houseplants. So your idea of an accent wall with some greenery might be a really nice and easy way to make the office a fun space....See MoreHelp choosing light fixure and area rug!
Comments (21)Sort out the piano first. The way the lid opens now, you're throwing the sound against a hard surface, the wall, not out into the room. The pianist has their back to the room, and you have no softening elements like a rug under the instrument, drapes at the windows. I would move the loveseat into the bay window so the piano can be turned to get the most out of it. Here's a nice way to handle the drapes and sofa in the bay....See Moreoaktonmom
