Help choosing light fixure and area rug!
Would love some help choosing a chandelier for this front room of my house? I got some great tips when I posted about the bay window and general layout of this room...now that I have my new black piano, I'm trying to decide on a light fixure and area rug to tie it all together!
The piano has quite a bit of gold trim so I think I should incorporate a few other gold accents, possibly in the ceiling light? The geometric square fixtures are my favorite so far...should I go with the black and gold? I don't really have any other gold in my house, basically just black (dark bronze) and brushed nickel. The tables in this room are nickel finish also (i could spray paint them a soft gold color?) so I'm worried it's going to be too many finishes?
As for a rug, I'm really at a loss...especially if I start to add gold. I've been looking for one in a white (or off-white) shade, with touches touches of black and blue. Not a fan of an abstract pattern...I dont think that style will look right with the piano.

I really like the last light but it might be a bit too pricey for me at this pt 😕 The top pic geometric ones were the closest I could find...

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoI think this blue rug with black accents and short gold fringe would look great in your room. Not sure if a chandelier will work with your ceiling height unless it is centered over the piano not where your fixture is now.
I do like this light fixture which mixes chrome and brass rather than black and brass

Comments (16)Try this......move the ottoman where your coffee table is now just to see if a darker plane will give you the "anchorage" you're looking for. If that does the trick then you can either purchase a new, dark coffee table or paint the base of your existing one. I think adding an area rug will make the space seem too closed in. Comments (9)The front legs at least should be on the rug of the couch and any chairs. The rug does not have to go all the way to the TV console, but make sure that the rug is large enough. A rug that is too small will look skimpy and will actually make the room look smaller. Ask me how I know! Comments (26)This is a pretty room with too much Hobby Lobby decor. You've got vases of sticks in display niches. Reminds me of a hotel lobby. Find something you love and want to look at every day to put there. I chose a couple of ethnic artifacts, but it could be art glass, or antique pieces. 2 years agoIf that room is about 15 x 15 then the light shouldn't be smaller than 30" in diameter, however, it must not hang down too low.
Are you sure this is the best position for your furniture in this room?

2 years agoThe room is approx 14x12' and the ceilings are 9' so I was looking at fixtures in the 25-30" wide range. And probably on the shorter side. I know I have to leave about 7' from floor to bottom of light. I'm considering a sputnik style...maybe a black finish? I thought I should incorporate some black accents to blend with piano.
And no, I'm not sure it's the best arrangement for my furniture 😕 but I want to keep the piano in the corner. I know it's not "proper" piano placement but personally, I like the look of the keyboard side better so I wanted that facing outward.
My dining room is opposite of this room and I have a black & crystal chandelier in there. And my 2 story foyer will also need a new chandelier eventually. These 3 rooms sort of flow into each other so I wanted the fixtures to coordinate a little. (I added a couple photos of these other areas to help). Would different finishes be better bc I was thinking of keeping them all (mainly) black/dark bronze?

If you aren’t wanting to go monochromatic, don’t worry about any colors not ”matching” other rugs in other rooms. I agree with you — no abstract patterns. Do something different. :)lolaleigh27

2 years agolast modified: 2 years agoThere was a dressy one by celery Images. Does piano have warm-toned leg caps/tips? The rooms don't seem casual sputnik type. There's an elegance to a piano, so I don't favor the angular or 'cage' ones.

Tabletop is so dark with the cool white around, but a rug like this for example could enrich the room, 'sorry' don't mean to offend. Deep spice tones for $207.

2 years agoSort out the piano first. The way the lid opens now, you're throwing the sound against a hard surface, the wall, not out into the room. The pianist has their back to the room, and you have no softening elements like a rug under the instrument, drapes at the windows. I would move the loveseat into the bay window so the piano can be turned to get the most out of it.
Here's a nice way to handle the drapes and sofa in the bay.
