Area rugs on wall-to-wall can be tricky because they can get lumpy from feet pressing into the wall-to-wall beneath. seems like the issue is the white base of the coffee table and the glass top, making that center area seem open. The solution might be a different coffee table, maybe something black lacquer? I think a round table would do very well in that spot as well.

Without seeing the entire room, I think the problem might be that one side of the room has white furnishings and the other side has dark furnishings which creates a disconnect. I'm thinking more along the lines of replacing the end table and moving what appears to be a solid dark chair more on the side of the sofa. I don't think adding a rug is going to give you the result you're looking for.

I would not put a rug down in that room, either. But I would offer a suggestion about the sofa pillows---take all the dark and patterned pillows off and use just two of the maroon/dark rose color (not the darkest) at each end of the sofa on the arms. I think the picture accomplishes your aim of a calm, well furnished, comfortable room and would not muddy the waters with another pattern, color or texture.

Just took another look at your photos and see that what I thought was a chair is an ottoman.

I think the combination of colors and textures selected for your room is very nice. I would not add a rug. Without seeing the rest of the room, it's hard to determine if this is the best layout for the room. I love how you took the colors of the chairs and brought them over to the sofa with the selection of pillows.

I love your room as is! But I like Tibbrix's suggestion of a round coffee table. I like the lightness of the glass, tho, and think it suits your room very well.

I wouldn't add a rug. You could think about painting the bases of your glass tables a darker color, or metallic copper/bronze, and see if that brings it all together.

I will have to try that....I wonder if there is anywhere I could just purchase a new base for the glass?

I think it's the end table that needs to be darker to anchor that side of the room.

I had similar decisions to make; I painted the base of the coffee table, end table, sofa table (matchie matchie I know) but it brought it together inexpensively. I like your colors too.

I think I would have to do both the tables match. They are older tables and the bases are stone ...don't know how easy that would be to paint.

You should definitely be able to buy just a new base, especially at places like IKEA, Pier One, etc that sell the glass top separately.

Also, I think you could successfully spray paint them. A very light sanding maybe, spray primer, then several very thin coats of paint. Lots of choices available in terms of colors and finishes.

I'd try wrapping the bases in a dark fabric first and live with it for a while to see if you like the look. I kind of love the bases and carpet the same color so they appear to be floating. Well, especially the coffee table. I might like a different style, darker end table on the right of your sofa.
