I vote for the middle drawing except instead of two sofas back to back, put two chairs up against the windows with a table in between which creates a small conversation area. If your family is into games or puzzles maybe you could expand that seating area. I don't like the idea of a sectional that would have part of its back toward the fireplace. As for the chaise in front of the fireplace, it's worth a try if you're really excited about it. I would want to be able to return it or use it in another room if I didn't like it there. Sometimes you don't know if you're going to like something until you try it. Hard no for me always on putting the TV over the fireplace. I guess some people are fine with it, but it's not for me and you will find the majority opinion on this forum will run against it. If you don't have anywhere else to put it, it's fine, but you do have another option.

I hadn't considered putting the TV on the other wall but it's a good idea. The only problem is, the wall damage is a hole in the wall kind of damage but it is definitely something to consider. The other thing is, would you put the sofa in the middle of the wall again or to the right hand side of the wall so that it is inline with the TV?

@Elaine Doremus Resumes Written Thanks for the response. We have a growing family - currently 2 adults and an infant, with another one on the way. This room will be used a a great deal and ideally the couch(s) we choose will last us for years and years to come. I am so back and forth between a sectional or arranging the room with sofas/chairs - I feel as though a sectional is more inviting for a family with kids but I'm afraid of crowding the space. I went to PB today and fell in love with their slipcovered York Sofa so am considering maybe two couches on either side of the room? Then I worry that the couches are too far apart, leaving awkward space in between. Decisions!
