Do you have a favorite mixing bowl set?
Comments (48)Much depends on what I'm doing. Most of the time I like the Pyrex clear glass ones. I like to be able to see from the outside if things are mixed. Plus the shape is great for mixing, even using a mixer and they're deep enough without being too deep. I even bought a larger one for making angel food cake since the others weren't big enough. There too, it's great for things like slaw and salads to see that it's mixed well. I like to be able to see! I had a plastic handle one similar to the one in the link only more conventional shape and used a lot for stuff that would pour. Don't use it much now though. I just bought an Anchor Hocking covered measuring thing from Aldi before Christmas when they had them reasonably priced and I used it to make banana bread. Worked great. I really liked the handle to keep a grip while stirring. I guess I'm not too fussy, I'll usually grab what I can get my hands on, though I do have preferences....See MoreDo you have a favorite Borscht recipe?
Comments (2)I've always loved beets and I like borscht a lot. I do like cabbage in mine, and I use beef bones or beef stock as the base. I usually start with home canned beef broth so that negates the need to let the broth simmer then sit so the fat can be skimmed. Borscht Recipe You need: ◦8 cups beef broth ◦1 pound slice of meaty bone-in beef shank ◦1 large onion, peeled, quartered ◦4 large beets, peeled, chopped ◦4 carrots, peeled, chopped ◦1 large russet potato, peeled, cut into 1/2-inch cubes ◦2 cups thinly sliced cabbage ◦3 Tbsp red wine vinegar ◦1 cup sour cream ◦Salt and pepper to taste Preparation: Bring 4 cups of the beef broth, the beef shank, and onion to boil in large pot. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until meat is tender, about 1 hour 30 minutes. Transfer meat to work surface; trim fat, sinew and bone and discard. Chop meat; cover and chill. Cool broth slightly. Chill in pot until cold, at least 4 hours and up to 1 day. Spoon fat from top of chilled broth and discard. Add remaining 4 cups broth, beets, carrots, and potato; bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer until vegetables are tender, about 30 minutes. Stir in meat and cabbage; cook until cabbage is tender, about 15 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Stir in vinegar. Ladle soup into bowls. Top with sour cream. Serves 6. Annie...See More*Floof* how many sinks DO you actually have?
Comments (66)Forgot to say earlier I was swooning so over Annies outhouse, lol.... 6 sinks. 4 toilets. The double basin kitchen sink, kitchen/garden powder room, and my loves office bathroom sinks are most often used. That can go down to just the kitchen sink- it's happened during power outages to set up the 5 gal water bottle over it for everything for a couple days. For me it would be really, really weird to have run out of all soap of bar, liquid, foaming, dish, body, shampoo, laundry liquid... to the extent that I have to restock all hand washing ability at all sinks at the same time....See MoreFood floof! Comments (36)If it were up to me I'd dine out 6 days a week, LOL; but since Spouse enjoys my cooking, my mainstays are dishes we don't eat at restaurants: Omelettes or scrambled eggs, because I LOATHE crispy brown spots on my eggs. Custard French toast: challah sliced at least 1-inch thick, soaked for several hours in custard, and sauteed to a light golden brown crust with creamy interior. Filet Mignon, as we both love beef. He prefers rib-eye but dislikes the fatty parts, meaning there's too much waste IMHO. Filets are easier, plus leftovers make great steak 'n' eggs, or Vietnamese Bun Bo Xao/Beef Rice Noodle Salad (great in hot weather). Oven-fried chicken cutlets Roast chicken: I've settled on the Rosie's brand as our preference. And our cat loves the tidbits of chicken breast he gets every time! Burgers/Meatballs: I use a mix of 50/50 ground bison and 85% fat ground beef. I prefer burgers, he prefers meatballs. Chile Verde Pork There are other dishes I make, but those are for occasional/change of pace/didn't get to the grocery store this week ;)...See More- 8 years ago
