jade plant dropping healthy leaves
Comments (4)I would say "overwatering"...At those temps.. Being close to a cold window and draft has never affecetd mine. That is where they stay always.. If your soil has collaspe which most do with peat in it, just after 6 months, then your soil is holding more water than you think watering once a week and it will cause healthy leaves to just fall. This use to happen to my citrus too.. I only water mine once every other week at this time of year, in a gritty mix in a full sunny window..Your problem has happened to me on a few times occasions prior to switching to a much durable soiless mix.. I would get your plant out of that pot and change the soil if you suspect this a problem asap, or water much less frequently and hope your roots heal over time..;-) I hope yours gets better soon. Comments (8)Hi, i had the same problem with some of my jades that i kept outside on the balcony. However, none of the plants i kept inside was affected. I think this "leaf-falling syndrom" is related to the very wet and quite cold spring and early summer we had this year in Germany. It is a kind of rot that might be induced by some fungi ... All of the stems that showed this syndrom finally died. The problem is, that the rot is inside the stem (in the vascular bundel) and that it will continue to "grow" to other plant parts and finally most probably will kill the whole plant. I solved this problem by taking cuttings of yet uninfected stems and rerooted them. Like this i at least could safe the plants ... You could easily test if your plant has the same disease by cutting your affected stem and look if there are brown, "soft" parts in the vascular bundel. Good luck. Comments (22)Oksana - I water with normal tap water, which is from the Great Lakes of good quality. Ozone is used for primary disinfection here, along with Chlorine gas. Calcium thiosulphate is also used for dechlorination and ozone quenching. I used to let my water sit for a couple days, but once I figured out which technology the local water treatment plant is using I stopped. Unfortunately, I do not know the PH of my water. My PH meter should arrive next month and I am curious to see the result. My watering frequency was every 2 or 3 days outside during the summer. Now every 4 days inside under lights since things have cooled down. I am fertilizing every other watering at ~1/4 strength. For fertilizer, I am using two. The first is liquid Miracle Gro 12-4-8 with micronutrients. It has a few micronutrients (there are very many for plants). The second is DNF Gro which is a two-part liquid, 2-0-2 and 0-1-3 with different micronutrients. Once my EC meter comes in, also next month, I am planning on taking some additional measurements as well. Could you share what you are using as well?...See MoreMy Jade plant's leaves are falling off...please help!!
Comments (6)Darielle 'Soft & squishy' is never good - plant is waterlogged, and could start rotting very easily. Original potting soil is likely full of peat (if not all peat) or cocopeat. These are ok for starting many cuttings, but they are tricky to keep properly moist: if too wet, plant will sit in mucky soil. If very dry, peat becomes hydrophobic and very hardy, and it repels water. If my plant, I would take it out immediately. Get rid of all old soil. Get a new mix - I do not know what is available to you, but simple and better draining mix could be made by using a cacti & succulent soil (or citrus soil) and mix it with at least 50% of coarse perlite. There are many other mixes ppl use (in my case, it is a mix of grit, perlite and turface). These will drain very well. You could find lots of posts about jades on Cacti & Succulents forum here - pls. click me Plant should be little higher up in pot - more soil should be used. That will allow for much better air circulation around stems. If you want to direct branches to grow in specific direction, wiring them could be better idea - string seems to be quite thin and it could cut/damage stem. Pruning is a simple way of directing growth. Keeping it outdoors would be good idea. If potted in well draining mix, there should be np with rain showers. Be careful putting it outside from - perhaps - darker spot indoors; plants need to be acclimatized to much better, outdoors sunlight....See Morerina_Ontario,Canada 5a
