Black high gloss interior doors, Hardware?

I am painting my interior doors high gloss back and wonder if I should use black hardware or polished chrome, or brushed nickel. Hinges and knobs

Hi, Claire--

If you're committed to the idea of a glossy black door, I'd recommend a brushed nickel hardware to offer a contrast in terms of tone saturation (dark > lighter) and also finish luster (gloss > brushed). Would avoid black on black so folks in low-light situations will still be able to locate your hardware - important during egress situations. Cheers!

No black, no one would ever be able to find the door handles! Depends on how much of a contrast you want, chrome would be shiner but nickel is softer. Alternatively, you could use a warm metal for a really nice contrast.

Just a word of warning, a glossy black door is more prone to showing fingerprints, dust, smudges, and hand prints. Just be ready!

All my doors are now done with the Brilliant. I started with screen doors which look like new after 2 years. This summer I redid the front door with it and the entire front porch (which had 2 y.o. paint & looked terrible) and front trim. We'll redo the trim in back next year. I am told it's expected to hold up for 8 years. The paint also comes in pints. One pint of the blue did all the trim on 2 screen doors and 2 coats of my front door with some left over. It is excellent to work with and has excellent results. If you want the Euro door look (I love the English doors as well) this is the way to go.

High gloss shutters or door only?

Yes, use the FPE on door and shutters. I am a big fan of black, particularly when you already have two colors and textures on the facade of your house. The shiny black looks spectacularly good against both brick and creamy yellow. You also have lots of green in your landscaping, so black will hold its own better among all the leaves. We had exactly that combination of brick below and siding above on our previous house, used the glossy black FPE for shutters and door, and it looked just great. When a house is all one color, using a third color for the door is nice, but I think you have enough going on already. And to my mind, there is nothing more elegant and sophisticated without being showy than a black door with simple brass hardware.

Satin or semi gloss for black interior doors?

Satin finish is highly preferred for most interior trim and doors, including cabinets. Satin is durable and washable, and the majority of people don't wash doors and trim. Spot clean, yes, a thorough washing? No. Aura Grand Entrance in Satin will provide a beautiful finish, and very durable. Warning: Be sure the door surface is in perfect condition. If it's not, the satin black will show every defect, however slight.

Currently brushed nickel, I had planned on replacing them to oil rubbed bronze though. I do not plan to paint the other interior doors, they will stay white. Our kitchen cabinets are cherry wood color and I have brushed nickel hardware on those too, I don’t think oil rubbed bronze would look good on those though and planned to keep the brushed nickel.

Just do them in a semi-gloss instead of a high gloss if you want them to stay looking beautiful without the maintenance

Fairway TY, I plan on an oil brushed, maybe just a semi gloss as recommended. Or should I go High Gloss.

IMO it depends on the rest of your space as far as style is concerned for the gloss but I would either do brushed nicel or a soft brass hardware again depending on your style.

Patricia The dining and formal living room will be white wall, trim and white sofa and some black and white chairs. I haven't decided on accent color yet if any. The tray in the ceilings will be black lacquer as the are 16 foot and drop to 14. These are the chairs
