Gorgeous home and landscaping! I usually like the front door to be a different color than the shutters...makes it the focal point and draws your eye in but since your door is recessed and surrounded by red brick, I would paint it the same as the shutters....I might leave the shutters more matte or semi-gloss--might be too much if they were super glossy--but you could definitely go high-gloss on the front door. Instead of black..how about charcoal/deep gray...not so harsh looking. Is that siding at the top cream or yellow? If cream, I think you could go green for door and shutters, if yellow, I would stick with charcoal or black.

Yes, use the FPE on door and shutters.

I am a big fan of black, particularly when you already have two colors and textures on the facade of your house. The shiny black looks spectacularly good against both brick and creamy yellow.

You also have lots of green in your landscaping, so black will hold its own better among all the leaves.

We had exactly that combination of brick below and siding above on our previous house, used the glossy black FPE for shutters and door, and it looked just great.

When a house is all one color, using a third color for the door is nice, but I think you have enough going on already.

And to my mind, there is nothing more elegant and sophisticated without being showy than a black door with simple brass hardware.

Thanks for the kind words! Since you like my landscaping, I thought you would like to see the pathway to the back yard. My two favorite gardeners are in the backround....probably "negotiating" who gets to use the sprayer...:)

Actually, the siding is currently light beige, although it photographs as yellowish. I plan to paint it a greige color (suggestions?) close to the mortar color. So charcoal or black, then, instead of the green? The former was my first inclination. Love the idea of charcoal.

Yes, I was/am concerned that the super high gloss would just... be.... too much on the shutters. As much as I love bling. :)

I like the crispness of black for both door and shutters with your brick and siding.

Tag---beautiful yard! If you are unsure about green, charcoal, black, glossy, semi gloss, etcc...suggest you buy small samples of what you are thinking of...paint poster boards of each then tape them to the brick, stand back and see what grabs you the most. I think all would look nice...but I am more partial to the charcoal, but with all the brick, black will hold its own too. Post pics when you're done!
