conserving grow light space with tall thin containers for seedlings?

Would it work to use tall, thin containers for starting pepper seedlings under a grow light to conserve space? I was thinking of cutting a PVC pipe maybe 12 inches in length not sure on diameter of pipe yet. I have all the height I want under my grow lights, but am limited on the width of course. Would a taller, skinnier type of container be fine for peppers. I realize I dont want the leaves crowding each other out too much. Anybody try tall, narrow dimension containers to conserve grow light space? Thanks for your help! Sarah
