Comments (51)Oh dear. I am feeling so undecided. I put another coat of the Polyshades on last night and it does look nice now -- dark and even. But it definitely is "mahogany" -- deep, dark red. Not the espresso color I had envisioned. But I am now hesitant to start putting on other products and other colors. I'm worried that it will look uneven, or that I will just end up with a mess. Arg -- this is what I get for being impulsive and not doing enough research up front. Anyway, I am heading out to a music festival today, so I am going to take a break from obsessing about stain and see how I feel when I get home. Maybe I will just put the new hardware in and see how I feel about it once the tile is in. The overall impression of the room is more important than the precise shade of stain on the vanity, right? Although -- I suspect that I will have a hard time finding a wall cabinet (for over the vanity) to match this stain color -- I've looked around and there is a lot of "espresso" and white (and still a bit of golden oak). Maybe a "cherry" cabinet would co-ordinate, if not match. Anyway, I need to get my mind off all this for a few hours. Have a good weekend, everyone!...See MoreSmall bathroom, small budget, big irritation, big plea for help
Comments (55)I think we're going to have to have an electrician come in and rewire the house or something. The bathroom, the two fan lights in the kitchen, and the lights in the main room in the basement go out all the time. Doesn't matter what kind of bulbs we put in there, they burn out. Yet the light over the sink is on pretty much 24/7 and it's been replaced like once in 16 years. For the last long while, we quit buying the "good" bulbs b/c if we get three months out of them, that's a good length of time for us, but the cost is outlandish to replace that often for bulbs that rarely are used. The cabinet door goes to shelving in the hall. If we didn't have the shelving, we'd lose quite a bit of storage, so we can't take the shelves out to put a hamper in there....See Moresmall guest bathroom need tile advice
Comments (1)These questions are mostly going to be opinion/preference as they are aesthetic in nature. Some of it depends on whether you're going for a traditional or modern look. Personally I don't like stacked subway tiles, so I would stagger. If you do go with white subway tile, small hexagonal floor tiles, white with some black, pair really well and are durable. As far as height goes, if you stay 4+ inches above the sink, it will double as a back splash....See MoreHow to update brown/beige tile bathrooms without re-tiling on a budget
Comments (4)The second bathroom with white vanity is already leaning in farmhouse direction. The first bathroom, maybe bring in another light fixture over vanity (I can’t really tell what is there now, too much glare in photo). Plus it looks like mirror or mirrors will be installed, so you can bring some more of your style in there. If you wanted lighter walls in that bathroom, maybe something like Benjamin Moore”s Ballet White or Swiss Coffee. You can try some samples. I like BM’s Natura line. You could also consider painting walls in that bathroom a light pastel blue. Other than that, both are very nice bathrooms as they are. Maybe accept them for that....See MoreRelated Professionals
