Replacing ceiling fan in son's bedroom...do you have either fan?
Comments (9)Hello Susan, Greg here, I am one of the ceiling fan experts at Hansen Wholesale. I have been selling ceiling fans for nearly 30 years now and as a test, I put the Minka Aire Concept II in my daughters bedroom, and the Emerson Curva Sky in my small home office. Both rooms are about 10 x 10. They are both 3 blade flush mount fans that are quite similar in style and price range. I prefer the Emerson Curva Sky because it is a bit less heavy looking and runs quieter due to the blade design. It also comes with a 6 speed controller compared to the 3 speeds of the Minka fan. It is also in the same price range. So, I prefer the Emerson fan over the Minka fan. Emerson has been making ceiling fans since 1895, Minka Aire is a recent company about 20 years old now. Both are good brands, but I prefer Emerson for the longevity. I used the 44" fans in these rooms, but if your room is any bigger than 10 x 10 you should use the 52" versions since they move a lot more air. Both versions were upgraded this year to include an LED light and have an "L" in the model number. The previous year's models have a Halogen light. So make sure you get the "L" version Here are pictures and links to the white versions, although they are available in other finishes: Notice the Curva Sky is less bulky CF152LWW: Emerson Curva Sky 52" CF144LWW: Emerson Curva Sky 44" F518LWH: Minka Aire Concept II 52" F519LWH: Minka Aire Concept II 44" I am happy to respond to further questions: Greg Tillotson Ceiling Fan Expert Hansen Wholesale https://www.hansenwholesale.com...See MoreAdd fan in small bedroom with 8' ceiling?
Comments (19)homepro01, I don't understand your comment about duct work for AC. I have forced air heating. I replaced the furnace (which is in the attic), ducts, and registers this year. I don't know what other duct work would be required for adding AC. I was told I would need to add a line for the refrigerant. The problem is where to place the outside unit. I'm in a townhouse. On the ground floor, the unit would be too close to neighbor's house to meet code. Alternative is to put the unit on the 2nd floor deck (hire a crane to put it there). The unit would be just outside my bedroom - I don't know if the noise would bother me. I'll look at the cirrus hugger fan. I have a Minka pancake fan in the living room and I don't think it cools the air as much as the Minka Artemis....See MoreCeiling fan style for my bedroom?
Comments (6)I've seen some other posts that recommend a white fan. And one without lights. I like those 3 blade "industrial" looking ones that are really simple but also think they're all too big. I might not use the light very much anyways because I have recessed lighting already. Can also put in lamps by the bedside. But The black swirl one also comes in white... I like this style too: Now I'm also reading that less blades in a small room make it look less dominant too. The 6 blade fan has small blades (30 inch) so it would be small enough but more noticeable. However I can't find any smaller fans with 3 or 2 blades where the blades aren't 30 inches or less! I do like the black a lot but I'm trying to imagine if that is a design no no! Anyone have input? thanks...See MoreRecessed lights in a small bedroom with a Ceiling Fan - Bad Idea?
Comments (7)How Many Recessed Lights? Recessed Lighting Calculator I don't think recessed lights are needed in a bedroom. My bedroom has a dresser that extends most of the length of one wall. Two lights on it (actually, they're the first-generation IKEA Symfonisk speaker lamps) with 600 lumen bulbs are plenty to light the room. You could reduce the chance of strobing from recessed lights by using deep baffle lights (example) and even further by using dark reflectors You might consider tape lights attached to the topside or underside of the wall shelf. Put them in a channel to improve their appearance if they'll be visible. I'd add a desk light. "It's super annoying to have to walk across a dark room to turn on the current floor lamp."
