Is ID-ing conifers a thing on this forum?

My parents planted this 20-25 years ago and not knowing what it is bothers me.
It seems it weeped a lot more when it was young and I thought it was a weeping white spruce. Now it can’t decide what form it wants to take.
What is it?

Comments (6)Thanks! I knew there was a Plant ID forum but could not think of name (I was searching for "ID" and "identification" and couldn't find anything!) The first one looked like ajuga of some kind to me, too, but I didn't want to transplant it somewhere, watering and caring for it, for it turn out to be a weed (not that I've done that before.... okay.... Comments (14)Yes, guides with arrows pointing to field marks aren't the ultimate in identification. Guides with notes about other birds with similar characteristics and then explanations about what to look for the tell the two apart are helpful. I have found that in most cases where IDs are difficult it's really beneficial to research more than one resource. We really have some tools now that weren't commonly available even fifteen years ago and that's access to the internet and cheaper digital cameras. I keep a digital right by the regular birding window. I take rapid frames of the birds in question from as many angles as I can. Sometimes you don't have time to focus and be fussy. Getting a less than perfect picture is not always a failure. If it helps you to catch the target sitting next to a known bird, immediately you have a handle on size. I also prefer real photographs I find on this forum, because painted representations just leave too much to artistic license. LOL. I sometimes wonder how many really cool sparrows I missed by logging them as something common? So many folks just causally dismiss them because they look similar. This is where you sometimes find your lifers! Keep a notepad handy to your observation station to mark down anything you notice on field marks. Comments (8)Thanks, Liz and socks! Yes, I repotted the cactus and yesterday was the first time it got some water, so the soil shrunk - I will definitely top up. When I was searching online I came across the Christmas tree cactus, it was a good candidate - now that Liz is mentioning it, I think it might be indeed a Austrocylindropuntia subulata monstrose. I got it from IKEA and I am not ashamed to admit it :) Seems like the plants from there last longer. I don't want to flood the forum, so I will ask the next question here - I bought an E. Perle von Nurnberg and it literally wilted OVERNIGHT. I am not kidding. I bought it, it seemed fine, brought it home, did not water it, the next morning the lower leaves were the wrinkly yellow-ish and limp sign of overwatering. I have discarded the leaves, repotted with a hefty amount of perlite in a slightly larger pot and am thinking about beheading. Never tried it yet though. Right now it is a bit wobbly, because the soil is dry and aerated, and the poor thing is like a danglyhead without its lower leaves. Comments (6)The Aloe is likely a hybrid. The Euph. looks to possibly be a monstrose form of some sp.. 6. I think is a Gymnocalycium sp. 7. Looks like an Aeonium in form. Some sedums have this form, but are usually not this large. 8. You may be able to I.D. this Mammillaria at the CactiGuide site. Look for Mamms that bifurcate vs. ones that stay single. It looks like a common one so you should be able to find it. Sorry I don't have any complete I.D.'s but maybe the leads will help....See More
