My citrus tree list! (long post)
Comments (3)Thanks for sharing! I knew I was addicted when my credit card magnetic strip started wearing out the year I started buying up all the sweet citrus I could find. I'm sure it was coincidence. I numbered all my trees and started spreadsheet and religiously keep it up-to-date (with repot, pest, and general health info) so I know what's what. Of the two trees I've given as gifts, only on is alive and *barely*. Happy citrus growing......See MoreMy yard is waking up
Comments (17)@bahamadan, thanks. As for my Oro blanco on Macrophylla I was told when I planted it that the rootstock would only give me dry fruits. The 3 I harvested this season were definitely dry and no good but I chocked that up to the trees age and this being its first season bearing fruit. Carrizo seems to really struggle in my high alkali soils and when reading through the citrus variety collection on tangos the Brix rating was only 1%-2% lower on macro than on Carrizo or trifoliate rootstock so I figured, hey why not give it a shot. As for leaf miners I use imadicloprid systemically 3 times per year. It's my only choice in the desert, I've tried spinosad and neem oil but it burns my leaves because when the leaf miners show up here it's already getting to the 100 degree mark. I stop using it a couple months before harvest so as to try and minimize mine and my families exposure to the chemical. I am also going to try pheromone traps this year and see if that helps, they're readily available online. Your trees look like they're doing well too. @hobbyartisan, I envy those of you up north that can grow citrus in that type of climate. I tried to grow a satsuma in a pot in my climate and failed. It didn't even last one season before it shriveled up from lack of water or too much water or who knows what. I commend you on your lime! @Cory I forgot to mention how cool I thought your greenhouse looked in the dark! It's like a spaceship nestled amidst a white snow blanket, too cool. @Mike, how's it going buddy, glad to see you survived the great blizzard of 2016. I hope you see warmer weather soon and get out of that cold weather depression. Thanks for the kind words, I love hanging out in the citrus forum, there hasn't been much activity lately so I've been looking through older posts some 7-8 years old, many of which you wrote or participated in. It's crazy to read back that far and see the progression of yours and everyone's collection through the years. Well I hope everyone has a good night and I'll talk soon. Comments (19)Hello Evan, yes my trees are outside now. I was away for a week and left my greenhouse sealed up as it was still cold here when I left and did not expect the hot temperatures we got two of the days I was away. Rain and cooler temperatures was predicted for most of the week. I probably should have put up shade cloth just in case, but I had the flu for several weeks, and being exhausted from that I was lazy and didn't put it up. My trees dropped a lot of leaves but will be fine, but my orchids were cooked. I don't think many will survive, but I will wait a while to see if they send out some new growth. Your trees really are doing so nicely. Are your flowering plants beginning to bloom now too. You have so many nice ones. Cory...See MoreVariegated pink eureka lemon on sale
Comments (37)I am a bit nervous of the condition of my tree once it arrives. It shipped out 10/3/17 and will arrive 10/10/17, 7-8 days in a dark box sounds like that poor trees going to be in rough shape. What is the longest anyone's trees have been in transit for?...See MoreKelly(zone 10a, California) GrowingCitrus
