I liked talk shows too. The first one I ever watched was Girl Talk, hosted by Virginia Graham, around 1967. There is a channel here called Decades. Last night I watched a little of Dick Cavett interviewing Kathryn Hepburn.

Ooh, the Avengers! loved that show.

Janie, I remember My Little Margie (just barely) and The Real McCoys -- I loved Walter Brennan in that!

Password, West Wing, The Good Wife.

Can I list ones I don’t miss?

honeymooners, never could accept Jackie Gleason threatening to pow his wife. I still find it offensive. I watched re-runs as a little b4 my time

same objection w/All in the Family, old guy calling his wife a ding bat.

Parenthood. ER and definitely Downton Abbey!

I forgot two I miss: thirty-something and Seinfeld. Well, I still watch Seinfeld reruns so don’t really miss it but wished there were new episodes.

Bossyvossy, is this another one you don’t miss? Or is it you loved a show called thirty something? Should probably just google. Never heard of it. I might check out some reruns of shows others miss and don’t know. Just checking if this is one to avoid. I don’t watch the reruns of shows I watched and miss.

Never mind, found it!

No one has mentioned ER! (Or did I miss it)

i have it in my Hulu queue.

Also, Andy Griffith and M.A.S.H. - both still funny and available on Netflix.

3rd Rock from the Sun was also one of my faves! My fave episode was when William Shatner was on as the Big Giant Head and Dick says he saw something on the airplane wing, and Shatner says, 'You saw it, too?!'. Lol ref to Twilight Zone.

Oh, when I was a kid Bionic Woman, Six Million Dollar Man, Charlie's Angels, Donny & Marie, Sonny & Cher, Flip Wilson, Sanford & Son, Good Times, Emergency, Adam 12, Mod Squad and there's probably many more I have forgotten.

Oh! Emergency is the show I mentioned I watched in Germany with “Johnny”. It was called “Notruf California”

Emergency and Adam 12 are still on Cozi TV. Many of others mentioned from that timeframe too.

Dang. No Cozi tv on Directv. Would have been fun to see how they talk in English.

Comedy when it was funny and not political!

All In the Family airs here on Get TV. I used to watch it but now it makes me cringe.

Loved St. Elsewhere. ER. Northern Exposure. Downton Abbey. For a game show, loved Hollywood Squares with Paul Lynde (Uncle Arthur), Phyllis Diller etc. I'm sure there's more haha. Edited to add, Burn Notice and In Plain Sight.

Amen phoggie. I don't watch any late night and very few sitcoms.

Ed Sullivan and The Smothers Brothers.

Way back I loved the Waltons and Little House.

I saw these in repeats but Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Playhouse 90 (90-minute stand-alone shows).

Thanks for reminding me! ...Smothers Brothers, Laugh In, TW3 (That Was The Week That Was).

Oh! Hullabaloo, Shindig, and Midnight Special! And Tom Snyder's late-night show was great, he had the best musical guests!

Moonie, I'm with you there. The 70's saw the rise of more political humor, and "pushing of boundaries" -- some of which was good (more African American presence, although they were too often still presented as buffoons) -- but also the rise of just plain meanness, outright insults, coarse language, and snark passing, and being accepted, as clever humor. I understand that Archie Bunker was supposed to be a stereotype that they were lampooning, but they used too broad a brush for me, I guess.

I never liked Jackie Gleason either, or Dean Martin.

Tom Snyder was hilarious! You guys are bringing back memories.

Wow, there are a lot of St. Elsewhere fans here. We have every episode of it, in order, on VHS, without commercials.

Another favorite that we miss is The Pretender, starring Michael T. Weiss.

So now they cancelled Code Black, too. Not my favorite, but I did watch it. I might really have to look for reruns of some shows you guys liked. Not much left.

Oh shoot, I liked Code Black.

Ya know what.... when I watch old shows on MeTV or OTA retro stations, they’re fun to watch for nostalgia, but now are they cheesy as well by today’s tv standards. Like CHIPS or Knight Rider and the like.! But there are some that are great even today. MASH, BRady Bunch, I DReam of Jeanie, Andy Griffith, etc.

Thought of more that I loved: Miami Vice, Beauty and the Beast, and Moonlighting.

Laugh In.

Night Gallery!

I just remembered Night Court. I guess this is not a show that I miss, exactly, but I did enjoy it.

CarolinaGirl, I agree about Andy Griffith, and also Dick Van Dyke -- 2 of the best shows ever. I had mentioned Maverick also. Combat! was a favorite of the entire family back in the 1960s -- although set in WW2, it was more human interest than battle action as I recall.

*clears throat* Greeeen Acres is the place to be, Faaaarm living is the life for me"

Oh yes! The Dick Van Dyke Show - when Mary was Laura :)

The Saint with Roger Moore! I watched a couple of episodes on "this" (similar to cosi) last night!

How about the Odd Couple? Beginning with the music, I always thought the show captured the NYC way of life. I dreamed of being a grownup and walking somewhere in Manhattan. Mad Men creators did a really good job of vividly bringing that feel back.

The Saint! I fell in love with/Roger Moore the day I laid eyes on him. He was always so cool, so calm, so in control. In reading wiki, his life has been nothing but drama, drama, drama. Totally different that his TV/movie persona.

We can complain about there being “nothing” to watch on TV, but this thread is evidence that there is lots of creativity now and there was lots in the past.

I’m optimistic that some dweeby, computer game playing nerd is going to discover the Cancer mystery in the most accidental of ways. Creativity is everywhere, sometimes alive and well; sometimes dormant like a bear in winter.

Rockford Files, Perry Mason, Columbo. I must have crime on my mind this morning. :)

Cagney and Lacey. I loved both Sharon Gless and Tyne Daley. Especially nice was how "Marybeth" and "Harvey" were so kind to each other.

Many here that I enjoyed at the time, probably wouldn't today. I don't think I've seen Mork and Mindy mentioned or Mad About You. When I was even younger than when those aired, I loved all those westerns: Bonanza and Maverick, the Rifleman. Then Rin Tin Tin and Lassie and Sky King.

More recently, Downton Abbey, Parenthood, Sex and the City. Oh and Murphy Brown (not so recent).

Did anybody watch Rise this year? I recorded it and watched it kind of while reading here or researching something or the other. Just now I finally got around to watching the last episode. Boy, that was great. No side reading during this one. But I do like musical theater in the first place.

Did you know that it's been cancelled?

Lots of good ones mentioned. Let’s not for Hollywood Squares and Sonny & Cher.

I forgot Mad Men which was one of my all-time favorites. Also loved Parenthood.

Bifenton, I didn’t know, but expected it.

Sports Night with Peter Krause, Felicity Hoffman and Josh Charles was cancelled way too soon,

WKRP in Cincinnati

Never watched much TV but would love to see the original "Upstairs,

Downstairs" again.

Downton Abbey

Friday Night Lights

Parenthood

Hart of Dixie

I'll play, sort of.

The original Star Trek.

I also remember pleasurably watching The Virginian re-runs while grading papers while I was a grad student.

He's dead, Jim,

Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls!

Oh, I loved Pushing Daisies. It was so wonderfully weird.
