I like the red & gold quilt too and think it would look good with your furniture and carpet. Some brightness is needed in the room. Yes, blue would be another possibility, but I'm partial to the red myself. I was also going to suggest either a wall-mounted light fixture or a small shelf to put glasses, book, or whatever for the person sleeping in the top bunk. It would be inconvenient to me to not have something there. I'd also put a slightly larger lamp next to the bottom bunk. Can't tell if there is enough room there, but is there room for a slightly larger side table? Even if you have to paint an old one, something larger would be nice. Maybe you don't want to do this, but could the bed be moved 4-6 inches into the room toward the window? If you can't move the small table, I'd probably replace it with a small chest and hang a mirror above it. I'd look for a small upholstered chair for the corner between the windows. And perhaps get a fold-up luggage rack or 2 for bags to keep them off the floor. You could keep them in the closet out of the way.

I have many friends who have large families that all share a summer/weekend house. They have found that old dorm/camp cabin sleeping (single beds lined up in a row), is far better than built-in bunks. First of all, bunks are the devil to make-up and change sheets. They can also be hot. One friend used old curtains around each bed - like in a hospital - if one sleeper wanted privacy to change for bed. All children over a certain age slept in this room until they were grown. She grouped children by age, so when older ones came to bed, they would not disturb the younger ones. They also had a big "common room" with a TV, but it was really only for rainy days - everyone was expected to be outside doing something in nice weather. One has an actual barn set up this way, and her adult children take turns sleeping in a bedroom in the barn for safety.

We painted some samples on the house and now we are leaning towards Sherwin Williams Backdrop on the body of the house. We like that it looks a little grayer than Warm Stone. We feel like we have to go with something at least that dark because the house is surrounded by trees that drop a ton of stuff on it, and we have the Georgia red clay to deal with, too. Now we are struggling with deciding what colors the garage doors, fascia and gutters should be. Should we use the window trim color (Morris Room Grey) or use the body color (Backdrop)? We have plans to replace the garage door and roof eventually, but we need to figure out what looks best for now until we can do that. All advice is welcome!

I don't know about the swivel chairs. search around for "small swivel chairs" and check their measurements. you know I was thinking about it last night and realized there's a much more obvious layout for you. this one would give you more room to pass through to the stairs. (depending on the actual size of the room -- my proportions are total guesswork and might be way off.) you could mount the TV on the wall to give a lot of clearance in front of it. of course this means you'd have to slightly block the window off to the right. but it's a functional layout for a tiny room. my inlaws have a layout like this below. the coffee table is massive, but there is still just enough space to pass through. it's a great setup for social situations, lots of snacks and drinks on that table. however, that would be annoying if it's the only way you get from the stairs to the rest of the cabin. you might need to do a smaller coffee table if that's the case. if there's no room for side tables, consider wall mounted lamps to save space.
