Free standing tub suggestions
Comments (3)We're doing the Maax Ella Sleek which is south of $2k. Ferguson guy said he's seen builders put these in $1m homes with a $1500 fixture! It's acrylic but doesn't look it. one good thing about it is that you can deck mount through the back interior of the tub to the floor, hiding the plumbing. (As opposed to the extra cost of freestanding plumbing outside of the tub). I know there are more technical plumbing terms for all of this but anyways, that's the direction we're going in....See MoreNeed help deciding between free-standing and deck-mounted bathtub
Comments (18)The WetStyle f/s tub has a removable tray that sits across the tub. I like numberjunkie's idea of a shelf or ledge behind the tub for placing items and also like the idea of having the shower wall next to the tub tiled half-way up to have a space for installing a grab bar. WetStyle has an optional shelf that surrounds the tub, but I think it would make it more challenging to get in and out of the tub - would need to hop over the shelf. The drop-in tub I was initially considering was 72"x42" but that would likely not fit, so would need to be 72"x36". This weekend I looked at an open house (new construction) in my area that had a drop-in tub with a narrow space for the deck surround (see attached photo). The deck was tiled on the top and on the apron with white subway tile. I noticed that with the narrow deck space (about 2") and the tub overhang, it would be awkward to sit on the edge of the tub and swing my legs in or out of the tub. Wiithout space for a deck that is wide enough to comfortably sit on, ease of entry or exit may come down to depth of the tub and options for placement of grab bars. The Wetstyle tub is 22" deep; the drop-in tubs are generally deeper, more like 26"...See MoreCan you buy a free standing tub online?

I like a simple and clean look and the floor mounted ones look like fancy, exposed plumbing to me. If you can run your supply pipes up into the wall, all you need is the valve that's hidden in the wall, like a shower valve, and the spout and and handles that are surface mounted. l also like it because it doesn't take up space, and you don't have to worry about the structural issues that a floor mount sometimes requires, especially if you have to go through tile. My wall mount does go through wall tile, but I prefer that as it seemed easier than plumbing that has to go through and be secured to floor tile. Just my preference, but it made tub filling a whole lot cheaper. P.S.: I could have gotten a cheaper tub, but I preferred getting a name brand I had had good experiences with before. I'm sure that there are good quality tubs out there that sell for less than what I spent, but I'm not an expert on tub brands. I was simply happy spending $1620, as opposed to $3000-6000 locally....See Morelooking for free standing tub that attatches to wall
Comments (27)I gave you one, just above. And below None of these provide adequate standing room to be used as a shower. I would deem any rather un safe for that purpose. The second pic u posted has been jury rigged, using a bit of solid surface...........and probably silicone. My guess is the other has a trimmed wall furred out to meet the wish list.......... Just saying, several folks have advised and of course it is YOUR bath. It's the internet and an open forum. You can expect extra opinion you may not want. : )...See MoreJAN MOYER
