Jean, We have recently completed a kitchen with a layout very similar to the first picture you posted. The main difference is that on the wall with the cook top we have a double cabinet on either side of the hood and the double ovens are on the wall to the left (as you face the cooktop) along with the pantry and refrigerator. Our middle island is ten by four and contains the main sink,, dishwasher and microwave drawer. I store the silverware and dishes directly across from the dishwasher in two drawers so it is very convenient. The second island which opens directly to the family room has a smaller sink and the entire island serves as a bar area. We also have only two walls and are really liking the openess to both the family room and breakfast area. Friends have commented on how much larger the whole area looks. As part of our remodel, we added a nook in a former closer in our mudroom for mail, etc which had always accumulated onour kitchen before, but we knew we had to have another place for in our new layout. I think you will really love the two island layout!

The downside is for those who sell through the consignment shops. Someone I know has been considering that as a business and told me the commission is 50%. When things are already expected to sell dirt cheap, I can't see paying someone else to do it, losing another 50% on the item.

the L part of our kitchen is about 12 x 18 (we do have a large island also) We did a 48" range, and I do not think it takes up to much space (excuse the photos as we are NOT finished!) We have an older house, so lower ceiling height, one thing we did is to make sure our hood was at the maximum height so we could keep it rather open. My sink is a Kohler Whitehaven 30" sink.

Thank you so much homechef59! You are right, love the mirror in cabinet doors. It's antique mirror, btw. I actually wish I did it on the doors by the hood as well (may do that later). The backsplash is calacatta mosaic with antique mirror from Tilebar. The island counter is quartzite called Blanca Luna. I adore it. Every morning while drinking coffee, I find new things in its pattern. I got new counter chairs, kitchen table and kitchen table chairs since taking the above photo, so will post the complete look shortly. Thank you for the praise everyone.
