Julia Child rose at Home Depot
Comments (5)Oh that is interesting about how they get to the big box stores! I never knew. It always seems so random and that explains why. I saw Julia Child at Lowe's earlier this spring and almost picked her up but didn't and when I went back they were all gone. I did manage to find a Scentimental there and also got my mom a Cherry Parfait. All roses I was surprised to find at Lowe's! After that shipment of roses all of the others I happened to see at Lowe's were Knock Outs or Flower Carpets. I'm also kicking myself for not picking up a Music Box rose I saw at a Lowe's out of town. All of the ones I mentioned were in large nursery sized pots. Congrats on your lucky find, dutchrose71! :) Andrea...See MoreRose recommendation to replace M. Sunrise
Comments (22)weeper - the Bill Reid was also suggested to me on the Roses forum. I've been looking into it and it does have some promise. My local trusted nursery does not have it, but she is going to try to locate it for me. If I am able to put it in, I'll let you know how he performs. I am honestly considering "annual" roses for this location. I could put in several hybrid teas and enjoy them for the season, then plan to replace next year. It's a rather expensive approach but would also allow me to enjoy some unusual varieties. The other one I'm looking at - not yellow though - is Champlain. Is it really a true red or is it pinkish?...See MoreFirst rose bloom of the season - Robusta for me, what about you?
Comments (116)Yes, Dee-lish died to the crown in 1st winter. Now as 7th-year own-root, it's 2 feet green cane last winter. Enough potassium and calcium helps with thicker cane. When I first grew Yves Seedling in a pot, I doused it with sulfate of potash and gypsum and the cane is so thick that I could not cut off with a scissor, I had to use a hedge clipper. Saw my lawn fertilizer bag has potassium for winter-hardiness. Potassium helps with thick cane, same with calcium. Biggest root-growth in hydroponics You-tube of lettuce is with high calcium & high potassium fertilizer. I have 2 Kordes FlowerCarpet. One got invaded by tree-roots, I put cement blocks dug down to 1 foot to stop the tree-roots, but I forgot to put calcium & potassium in the soil. Tree-roots stole lots of nutrients. That shrub got eaten by rabbits to 1/4 its size. But the same shrub (without tree-root invasion) IS NOT EATEN by rabbits since the canes and leaves are thicker. I fertilized both shrubs the same in the spring (1 cup of Lilly Miller), but I forgot to re-stock the calcium & potassium stole by tree-roots....See MoreSmall roses on new Morden blush rose
Comments (57)@Jo (Manitoba-Zone 3) Good Evening, Todays Morden Blush ( I have 2 Morden Blush roses & one has little more shade/other in sun all day.80- 90F this week. The other rose in 90F today & afternoon shade has retained its color better….It just looks a little porcelain today…. Roses like ideal temps of 70sF-76F more or kess. Mine get burnt in 80F abd above because its humid and feels much hottier. My roses grow green canes fast in 80F , & bloom but wikt faster. Your summer os probably very lovely and mild weatger so-your roses will be lighter colored but keep their blooms a long time ! What’s your temps now?...See Morelkayetwvz5
